I read this news story this morning on the CBS website and got a big kick out of it. Apparently, we have an elephant retirement community in middle Tennessee that is not being pitched by Eric Estrada.

Is anyone familiar with this or has anyone seen the elephants? I especially got a kick out of this line:

"A lot of people don't realize that middle Tennessee is sub-tropical," Buckley said. "High humidity, lots of water, lush vegetation, long growing season, temperate climate - all that is quite suitable for the Asian elephant."

It seems that none of the pachyderms are asking if they will fit in.

Yes, I was aware of it. Several celebrities have "adopted" an elephant there, I believe.

It was in the news a lot a couple of years ago when one of the keepers was killed by one of the elephant.

I think at one time they had a live "elephant cam" . . . I'd have to search to see if they still do.

October is Elephant Awareness Month. I believe they still do have elephant cam. I saw that piece on CBS and was cracking up when the lady was describing middle Tennessee's sub-tropical climate Here in east Tennessee our climate is resembling something similar to that of the Sahara Desert

I wonder if the elephants are aware of it . . . they're pretty smart. ;-)

Oh, and they use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean them (no joke). I hope they buy it in the giant economy size.

And yes, they still have the elephant cam: The Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, Tennessee (http://www.tappedintoelephants.com/asp/index.php - broken link) If you don't see an elephant, that's because they're hiding behind one of the trees.

Or maybe they're hiding in the cherry trees. That's why elephants paint their toenails red, you know.
