DUNLAP, Tenn. (AP) — Supersonic skydiver Felix Baumgartner’s parachute was packed in Tennessee.

George Galloway of Precision Aerodynamics told the Chattanooga Times Free Press his employees in Dunlap are heroes in the dive Sunday from the edge of space.

I wouldn't go as far as he did and call them "heroes," but that is pretty cool.

I'm curious who this Dunlap company is, and where they're located... or if it was more of a private, home effort by people that specialize in this sort of thing.

The company name was mentioned in the OP. They certainly would not use a "home effort" for something that required some serious quality control to be safe. The same company does work for the military, too. Here's a link to the company website:

Ahh, I'm an idiot. I misread the OP thinking that guy was based in Chattanooga but had some employees working out of Dunlap.

Not an idiot.... just missed the name. I do it all the time when I am in speed reading mode to get through the forums. The jump was pretty incredible and it was neat to know TN was doing its part in the adventure. We watched the whole thing on live feed and some of the later footage before it was removed from the various outlets. The eventual movie Red Bull will put out should be pretty neat.

Despite the hype it's not rocket science. George's company probably made, and possibly packed the reserve.

One of my ancestors, Albert Berry, is credited with making the first parachute jump from a perfectly good airplane.

He was a Tennessean, from McKenzie area, I believe.

Figures it'd take a crazy Tennessean to do that for the first time...wonder if he said "Watch this", just before he jumped...
