Default Prescription Prices

I printed a list of the $4.00 prescriptions that are being offered by Target and WalMart and found that TN and a few other states do not participate in these programs. The statement noted that this is due to "state laws" and the prices will be higher and you need to check with the stores for the price. Has anyone had experience with these programs in TN? Is there a tax on prescription drugs?

No tax on prescription drugs, the Wal-Mart in Warren County where I live has the $4.00 prescription drug program. I'm assuming all Wal-Marts in TN participate.

I don't use the programs but when they first started it was all over the news. I don't remember anything about it not being available in Tennessee.

Tennessee has an Unfair Sales Law which is supposed to protect businesses by prohibiting their competitors from selling products below cost. So any prescriptions that cost Walmart or Target more than $4 have to be sold for more than $4 to avoid potential legal problems if local pharmacies complain.

Good to know...I wonder why the price list shows that TN does not participate? I'm glad that isn't the case Thanks to all for the feedback...

I just got out the list I printed out for Target that I took to the doctor.
The footnote at the bottom about higher pricing only applies to those drugs that have an asterisk after them. That's only about 15 drugs on the three page list I've got.

Default Inform yourself about drug costs

There is a web site that you can use to obtain drug news, compare costs, and download coupons. It is a gateway to insurance company, pharmacy, and drug company sites as well. It is drugonepage.com. Good luck.

Thanks for the website, fatherchristmas. This will come in handy once on Medi-care, especially.

With our insurance we rarely pay more than $1.50 - $2.00 for a generic RX. It is the brands that are killers!!

I would love to find a way to get name RXs at a discount. Our insurance is good, but some of the drugs are over $130.00/ 30 days.
