Tornado Watch for Middle Tennessee
We've had some rain today, mostly some heavy showers this morning and then it's alternated between being sunny and overcast.
Most of Middle Tennessee is currently under a tornado watch until 11:00 tonight, with possible severe storms and hail. I know new arrivals and people considering moving to Tennessee often have questions about what happens during these times. I thought it might be helpful if I kept something of a running thread of the weather this evening. I'm doing this mostly for you "newbies" . . . the locals all know the drill by now.
Now, this is just a "watch" at the moment, which probably most people know means conditions are favorable for a tornado. A "warning" is much more severe; that means a tornado has actually been sighted either by eyewitnesses or by radar.
So . . . at 5:00 o'clock my time there's a tornado watch. It was sunny just a little earlier but now it's cloudy and the wind is up just a bit. Am I worried or scared? Nope, not a bit, I'm going to go about my business like any other evening. I probably will keep the TV on so that I can stay aware of any severe storms heading my way (and, frankly, the TV stations overdo the weather these days . . . they'll probably be breaking into the regular programming this evening from time to time and showing us all their fancy smancy color radar stuff). Here in Nashville we also have tornado warning sirens around; personally, I think they're next to useless, but that's just my opinion.
If there a significant change, I'll try to post again (if you don't hear from me it's probably because the power has gone off . . . which doesn't happen too often in Nashville but it does happen), or I've turned the computer off just to be on the safe side. I have two 500GB drives . . . I don't want them fried.
See ya later.

I don't see any bad weather in your area. However, it looks really nasty in Kentucky. It's all headed to the northeast.

Thanks for that report Alleycat. While I am used to Hurricane conditions, being from Florida and the occassional tornado warning there as well, I have never actually seen one and the thought is kind of scary.

Uh-oh!
From the national weather service:
A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE INTO THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN
REGION AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...BRINGING THE POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE
WEATHER. THE MAIN THREAT APPEARS TO BE THE POSSIBILITY OF A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS. IN ADDITION...AN ISOLATED
TORNADO OR TWO WILL BE POSSIBLE...MAINLY OVER THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU.

Be safe all over that way! And as long as there is no dangerous that actually shows up, enjoy the rain.
