Photos: Foothills Parkway 102107
Based on the weather report for the coming week, I did the Foothills Parkway today on a whim. Like Cades Cove, I don't think the leaves that turned are all that vibrant and many are still green. You may observe the leaves seem to be curled or droopy. I looked hard to get color in the shots.
I promise no more photos until Christmas time. Will do in 2 posts.

For anyone interested, I think the red-leaf trees in the first couple of photos are sumac; which are common in Tennessee.

Thanks for those beautiful pictures! I'm glad you posted them. I'd be willing to bet that 90% of Tennesseans don't even know that there is such a thing as the Foothills Parkway in East Tennessee. It's in Blount and Sevier counties, right?
Anyway, LauraC, I think you have three callings here at city-data: your insightful comments, your informative research, and your beautiful photography.

Wow, LauraC, what nature might have left out in color, you managed to put in!
Beautiful photos. We will driving the Foothills Parkway this weekend. I sure do hope we are blessed with some of these beautiful scenes.
Thanks for posting.

If you are driving north to south, the best views are on the left, in my opinion.

Are the leaves normally curly and droppy on the sumac? I was attributing it to lack of water but I'm thinking maybe that's just the kind of leaves the sumac has.
