Snowy Winter Ahead?
According to the Old Farmers Almanac it looks like it's going to be a fine Winter.
For you Old timers out there, do you believe in the Almanac?

The Almanac's forecast can be amusing . . . but that's about it.
Now, the wooly worms; they're pretty accurate.

Has anyone else heard of the "Twelve Ruling Days" for predicting the weather for the upcoming year?
Does anyone want to? I didn't think so. Anyone, I think it's just an old southern folklore thing; I'm not sure it was used outside of the south or the Appalachians.

The OFA is pretty accurate for the Northeast. I still stand by what my weather rock tells me. Its never been wrong.

Is a wooly worm the same as a wooly bear? The brown and black caterpillar?

It just varies too much year-to-year to make any predictions. Yes, there could be snow at Christmastime, or rain, or it could be unseasonably warm. Or . . . in one 24 hour period it could be all of those.

Yep, same thing.
There's a Wooly (Woolly?) Worm Festival in Kentucky somewhere. There used to be the "Crazy Wooly Worm Woman" here who they would put on television every year with her winter weather prediction based on the wooly worms. I don't remember seeing her in the past few years; she must have gotten bitten by one too many wooly worms and passed on.
