How hot does it get in mid summer? It varies from year-to-year. You can count on the high being at least in the low to mid-nineties for most of July and August. This year was exceptionally hot (we set several new record). It can often get to 100; but this is usually just on a few days in some years. There are usually a few days every year when it's very hot and humid and pretty much miserable to be outside.
What is the elevation? mountains or flat? Hilly. Not mountains, but certainly not flat. How is the job market in that area? I'm not sure. I would guess that the economy is just okay in that area; not the best, not the worst. Hohenwald is in a somewhat out-of-the-way area and that make a difference. By the way, the Elephant Sanctuary is in Hohenwald. I posted a link to the live "elephant cam" a couple of weeks ago. You might have elephants as neighbors! ;-) |

I don't live in Hohenwald, but having been through there several times, I might be able to help.
1) In that part of TN, you can expect summer temps in the upper 80s to lower 90s. For a few days/weeks in August/September, temps usually make it to the upper 90s. 2) Hohenwald is somewhat hilly, characteristic of the western portion of Middle Tennessee. As you get closer to Linden (to the west), the land starts getting flatter. 3) I would assume it is service-based. I do not know of any major corporations or factories in that area. There's a Saturn plant in Spring Hill, which is maybe an hour away. Meriwether Lewis (of Lewis and Clark) is buried in Hohenwald. There's also an elephant sanctuary (which, iirc, is not open to the public) in Hohenwald. Best wishes. [ETA: Alleycat and I posted at the same time, so some of my info is repetitive.] |

And here's the elephant cam link: The Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, Tennessee
Elephants are native to Tennessee! (No, they're not. I'm just teasing. I think they have found the remains of a woolly mammoth however.) |

MY WIFE AND I RETIRED HERE IN SEPT. 2007
It does get hot here in the summer, we were here in July to check on our house and it was 105. Where we live it is flat but the surrounding area is mountainous , Hohenwald is 5 miles from the Natchez Trace Pkwy. There is not job market here. Hohenwald is all of maybe 4k. There is a campground close by and a Thousand trails 10-15 miles away. Wish you luck ![]() [+] Rate this post positively |

"...we were here in July to check on our house and it was 105."
RJW1952-1, I'm surprised you could leave your house unattended in Tennessee without getting wiped out while you were gone. Is Hohenwald really that safe? Did the townspeople welcome you - make you feel at home? I was looking at some areas in Mississippi and got the distinct feeling they didn't want any Yankees moving to their towns. Thx, Cate [+] Rate this post positively[/quote] |

You might want to check Columbia for employment, it's 30 or so miles away. Hohenwald is a nice little town. I always enjoyed my travels up that way.

What would give you the idea that TN is not safe? Well except for Memphis. . |

I left my house in Hohenwald being built. I retired here in Sept. Yes we have been welcomed by the locals, Some of the locals I have met are from other parts of the country ( Florida, Michigan, and other states) others have been here all their lives. This part of TN is growing unlike parts of Miss. and Louisiana will that never grow as they don"t want outsiders. How else is a town to grow and expand if not from the outside. I have met local teens, they can't wait to see the other parts of this country.,i.e. leave. There is nothing here but country. |
