Katherynn is on a distinguished road
Hi! I am currently living in Central Texas, been here since 2000! I grew up in East Tennessee (Knoxville, Maryville) and I can tell you all about the weather! One of the biggest things I miss about East Tn is the climate and atmosphere.

When I moved from Tn to texas (July of 2000), I went from living in all kinds of GREEN to living in all kinds of BROWN. LOL

It rains a lot up in TN, but not too much.. just enough to keep the air cool and the grass green. The air comes from the north, rather than the south (like TX). It can get humid there, but it's a different kind of humid, that's for sure! In Tn you can expect to see tons of spring flowers, a mild warm summer, beautiful crisp fall, and a COLD white winter!

The only roads that close are in the mountains usually. Simply because of the colder atmosphere and winding roads.

Seeing the mountains every day is definately taken for granted when you wake up to them every day, but not a day goes by that I dont wish I could see them again! I've attached a picture of the mountains near Maryville (Great Smokey Mountains). I hope my comments help and just let me know if I can answer any other questions for you!

~~~~~~~
I wanted to add a disclaimer that I am NOT a realator. I saw in some other posts that some where getting on here to "sell". My posts are truthful and from the heart. No selling here.
I understand, I was born in Texas and on my first trip to the mountains in 2000 I was hooked. I never anything could be so beautiful as the mountains, and waterfalls. I HATE living in Texas. I do love the picture you posted! Where was it taken?
Yes, I have lived through over 20 summers in east Tennessee. We do have some pretty hot and humid days, but still nothing like Texas. In the heat of the day during the hottest of summer, I do my gardening and outside stuff in the mornings and evenings.
I remember being in the Dallas area during cicada season - for one thing you can't sit outside at night anyway because of the heat, but then the noise of the cicadas - no one can imagine how loud it is down there - literally, you cannot hold a conversation with a person 2 feet away from you if you are sitting outside. Am I right?
This past week the high temp has been about 68 - 75 - a gorgeous fall season. The lows have been 49 to 59. This is how Fall is supposed to be!
I must say, though, that I did like TX when I lived there. I have liked everywhere I've lived, but I like TN better .....
Wink Ya' mean locusts?
How funny, I've never heard them called "cicada's" Yes, they are aweful! And yep, it sure would be nice to be able to sit outside in the evening and not swelter. This past summer was SO bad the only way I could stand to be outside was sitting in a lawn chair with a huge fan on me and spraying myself w/a water bottle! Ugh!
The more hubby and I talk about it, the more we are leaning towards moving to TN when we sell our house next spring...
Thanks everyone for your help! This forum is helping us a LOT!
Sonshine
Yes, locusts. I had forgotten about that. They're called cicadas here.
Talking Dallas or Nashville
Howdy! I am now living in Flemington, New Jersey and am considering a move to either Texas or Tennessee. It is very expensive here and I want to move to an area with a wonderful climate, not that many people, international connections, and where business casual is the norm (jeans fryes and a stetson over Brooks Brothers).
I have done salary comparisons, checked out the weather reports, the job markets, and the possibilities in real estate growth; yet still I remain stumped!
I would appreciate any suggestions whatsoever!
Default GrannyLois
Hi, I am living in NC and also originally from WI.......I am looking to move West but afraid I will miss my "green trees" along with "water". I am looking into OR, ID, CO, and also TN and KY.
Where in TN are ya? I am thinking I should try looking into the areas I did before I moved here to the carolinas.....like Owensboro, KY or Marysville area in TN. Knoxville was a little too hilly for me though. I thought I would venture back to Owensboro, KY or even try Chattanooga, TN before I would make a bigger move to the West. It would be cheaper for me to make a small move from the carolinas than it would be to go lets say to the pacific nw or colorado.
Do u know anything about KY, the areas? or TN different parts?
Thanks, I am almost 50 and single, but I need some excitement in my life. The area I live in now is very laid back and simple, which is nice but I need a little more!
Any Opinions appreciated
I am in NJ also,not to far from Trenton. I have spent a week every summer for the past 30 yrs in Johnson City usually june or August. June was usually nice and August was Hot and Humid but cooled down at nite, which is one thing I love abt the mountains. I am moving at the end of the year to TN and getting the heck outta Jersey. NJ is quickly becoming a 2 tier state, your either rich enough to live here or poor enough that the socialist govt. takes care of you with my hard earned money.(the view is nice up here on my soap box) Katherynn what a beautiful picture, the only thing missing is me takin a nap under that tree. 4weeks left here,not that counting!!!!
I just recently relocated to Dallas Texas a few months ago from Denver Colorado and am ready to move somewhere else already; looking at nashville or Knoxville areas. The past summer here was crazy. Besides the high temperatures Texans also have outrageous electricity bills ($ 535.00 for August). When you combine the two it's just too much. The most difficult part of making a move to TN is convincing my spouse, who is from Dallas, to leave Texas.
Tennessee gets oppressively hot and humid, but not to the extent of Texas. I lived in Clarksville a few years back and we had the air on for 3 straight months with heat indices in the 100s almost everyday. So yes, it does get very hot in TN, but not quite as bad or as long as in TX. Good luck with your move!
