Compare TX weather to TN weather
Hi y'all. My family has lived in TX (the DFW area) most of our lives and we are considering a move to TN. We love TX, but are so tired of the heat and humidity! I have read some posts here complaining of the humidity in TN in the summers. But from what I can tell, TN is definitely cooler than TX in the summers and actually gets some snow in the winter. I was wondering if any of you moved to TN from TX and could compare the weather for me?
I don't know if someone who's never lived in TX (or spent some time here) could know what I mean when I complain about the HEAT here. We spend most of the summer months indoors b/c it is sooo hot and humid. If I have to run any errands I do it in the early morning or late evening hours to avoid getting into a car that is 120+ degrees. I just hate feeling like a prisoner to the weather like that. I'd love to live somewhere where we can enjoy more of the year outdoors.
Can anyone help?

Would love to here some answers. Me and my wife are also in TX (Plano) and are looking for a move to TN, KY, or far north AL. This summer finally just broke us. We have a dog that we love to spend time with outdoors. But there are weeks at a time where you wake up and its 78-80 at 6:00am before the sun even breaks the horizon. Then plenty of nights where you walk out at 10:00pm and its still 95. Ughhhh!
I will say that I grew up in south Mississippi, about an hour north of the coast. It was hot and humid there for sure, but honestly I think its worse here. At least there the nights cooled off more than they do here. And you never seemed to get caught up in the "high pressure ridge from hell" weather that keeps dominating the weather pattern. In my 24 years in south MS, I think the worst summer I remember was it got up to 100+ maybe 15-20 days. I've been here 6 years and it seems like every other year we get 20+.
I could only imagine that its a little better in Tennessee, since the gulf moisture isn't as persistant there as it is the closer you get to the coast. But once again, would love to hear from those in TN.

I feel your pain or in this case heat. My husband and I live in Houston and HATE it because of the heat and humidty. We are thinking of western N.C. or maybe east Tenn. we want to be near the mountains. It's got to be better than this awful heat.

I moved here from FL, not TX, but I could not STAND the humidity in FL. Yes, we have a week or two here in Tri-Cities the past few summers that were reaching FL humidity levels, but that is about it. I can live with a week or two verses 4 months of it!
Hope that helps some?

I moved here (in 1983) from Richardson, TX, and have loved it from the first day. I will never forget those days of 100+ for 60 days in a row, nor seeing the thermometer at the banks saying 113 degrees. Unbelievable ~but true !!!
Yes, it is more humid, but that's not a problem. It's still less humid than where I originated from (WI). Just imagine your electricity bill being cut in thirds, imagine seeing the full range of fall colors, imagine having 3 months for each season ... then you have east tennessee.
Good luck to you!

Granny Lois...
Thanks for your reply! Having lived in TX yourself, I know you feel my pain! I have a question for you...you said the humidity is higher there than here in the metroplex? Have you lived there through a summer yet? I know here when it's only in the 70's and 80's if the humidity is high and there's no breeze it can be pretty unbearable. Have you experienced a lot of days like that in TN?
Thanks for your help!

I wish we could afford to come now. We're coming in Jan, we want to see what winter is like since we want to move there, we're checking out all the seasons.
Enjoy the fall for me!!!

I hope you don't get stuck there. I here in many parts of the South, the roads close when they get snow. I think I've heard stories of officers threatening to ticket tourists (from here) who try driving through it, with the excuse "but we're used to this." But if that happens, you probably will only be stuck a few days.
Are roads like this in winter in TN?
