Anybody know the proper procedure for transfering a title from North Carolina? I recently bought a car from a guy in NC with an open title (thats a title signed but not submitted) and am trying to get a title in my name in TN. TN. doesn't require notorization of titles when transfered between sellers but NC does it seems. Was told over the phone by local clerks office that I would have to have title notorized in order to transfer it into my name. This will be difficult to impossible for me to do. Past experience with this sort of issue makes me wonder if this is really necessary or if the clerks office is incorrect. Anybody with any insight into this, I would love to hear from

If you're not trying to get a new title issued by NC, then, IMO, it doesn't need to be notarized. Follow the rules for TN.
