Post News, Governor says Tennessee must protect its resources. Bredesen: Water not going to Georgia.

Gov. Phil Bredesen says he doesn't want to see more water being diverted out of Tennessee to relieve drought conditions in Atlanta.

Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin recently suggested exploring ways to pipe in water from other areas, including from the Tennessee or Savannah rivers, although Georgia officials said they have no plans to pursue such a plan.

I hope that Gov. Gredesen's determination to keep water from being diverted to Atlanta is successful.

As I had stated in another thread, Atlanta had plenty of warning to start conserving water back in May and June. But, kowtowing to all of the politicians and big money people in GA prevented any real preemptive action to be taken. Now that Florida and Alabama are putting pressure on GA to release more water from the already dangerously drained lakes all turkey feathers are flying!

Water is a precious resource and unless people start treating it with the same respect that the mussels in Florida receive, the SE will soon be vying for water like the SW US does.

Gov. Perdue and Mayor Franklin should try to fix what is wrong in GA before putting another state, i.e. Tennessee and/or SC, in the same predictament. They have or will have their own water and drought issues to deal with.

This is particularly tough to attest to since I live on Lake Lanier and desparately want to see my house sell at a reasonable price, but fair is fair. Be responsible for yourself first, GA.
