Not So Lost is on a distinguished road
J.R. I can not wait to ride in those mountains! Maybe it will even be motiviation for my hubby (Lost One) to start riding again!

We have been looking at parcel with a home and 10 acres and they are sooo many to choose from! I can not wait to get up there and check them out. I already gave notice to one job but have to keep working at the other one until we move, and it is soo hard! I just want to stay home and pack!

Yes, If you go down Route 70 in Greeneville, towards N.C. there is Paint Creek and several other streams and swimming holes. There is the Nolichucky River in South Greene County as well.

I really hate all these positive notices on NE Tennessee and Greeneville I see here. I lived there for 3 years and had to relocate for work but my wife and myself have already told ourselves that that's THEE PLACE. That will be our little quite corner of the world to retire in in 20 years or so. I lived there for three years and would laugh and shake my head when people would complain about traffic, crime, too hot where they live, too cold where they live, too many rude people where they live, the list goes on.

If the secret is out and the place becomes an overcrowded, overpriced, housing inflated, tax consuming, condominum filled, retirement community populating with people with New York accents, RV polluting, clear-cut landscape to make room for golf course dominating, cesspool in 20 years I am really going to be upset. Lets keep the secret to ourselves about this place!

Smile Already bought out land in Baileyton.

I think I just found 102 acres in Baileyton, half pasture and have wooded.

One of the biggest problems is staying close to the mountains and still have pasture land. We will be taking at least 6 horses with us and I have tendancy to add on to the herd

I don't care if there is a house on the land or not. It is so much cheaper to build up there anyway. A barn would be nice, but that can be built too.

I went to realtor.com AGAIN and got back 66 pages that met my criteria. That is going to be hubby's homework assignment while I am out of town this weekend.

I will keep you posted.

P.S. Check out the thread on horseback riding in the Greeneville area!!! I know we have the beach, but can you imagine riding your horse thru the Smokeys!!!! What a dream!!
We already bought our land in Baileyton last June. We are Floridians waiting to escape the rat race too. I see you are from Ft. Pierce. We are from Port St. Lucie. Baileyton is a really nice and very small community. I dont even think there is a traffic light there if I remember right. We waqnt out of this living hell that Florida has become. Baileyton is just right. It is out in the boonies with hunting and outdoors stuff around for me but close enough to Greeneville and Johnson City for my wife to have her amenities too. Something else nice about Greene County; my realtor told me there are no dirt roads in Greene County. Our property is a few miles out of Baileyton and about 18 miles out of Greeneville yet we still have paved roads and public water supply. In Florida you pay $300,000 for a lousy 1-1/4 acre of land and you get dirt roads and well water.

If you are a country music and bluegrass person, the fire dept has a jam/open mike session every week.

I would get you a new snow pic if it would snow!!! Geesh! Been in the 70's during the day and 40's at night and this is January!! I sure wish it would snow. It is unseasonable warm though, maybe it means we will have snow for Easter this year? Who knows, but as soon as it snows, I will have the camera at the ready for you.

MBMouse - I was there last week and it was just wonderful!!!!

We did not buy any property - but we sure did narrow down some decisions.

Middle to South Greene County east or west doesn't matter so long as it is south of I-81. Or Parrotsville. ( I know, 2 extremes, but similar locations)

We drove for miles and miles all over the general area. We went up to Rogersville and checked out Hawkins County, and please, no offense to anyone, it was just too far north to be practical for us at this time.

Almost made an offer on a Greeneville piece, but decided it just wasn't right.

We will be back up in March for another go at it.

We did find a great realtor while we were there and she is a joy to work with.
