I live in Sneedville, sorry you've decided against it. I do have dial-up internet, but broadband is available in the city limits. As far as cell phones go, we have Verizon and it works great. If you go over a mountain or down in a valley the phone may cut out a little, but it is that way in most of east tennessee. There really isn't much to do here, it is very rural, but I love it and it is home to me. Even if you decide not to live here, you should give it a visit sometime. If there's anything else you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask.

Summerlashea - Thanks for your reply. Honestly, the biggest thing is the ability to get my Dad to the VA Hospital in Johnson City.

I am a true Floridian and so is my hubby. I read in some of the old threads that if Sneedville does have a snowfall, it is difficult to get out. If the natives find it difficult, I am up a creek if my dad gets sick.

I am going back to our original plan: Somewhere between Cosby and Greeneville

Thanks again.

Smile Sneedville

Hello I am from Sneedville. Born and raised there. Great little town, however the town is really considered low income. The teachers in this county are the last on the payscale in Tennessee salaries. I now live in Hawkins County. Most people have to drive out of town for work (which is a good 45 min or more away).
As far as the people--you could not find any friendlier folks! This is also former home to the legendery Jimmy Martin (country/bluegrass singer).
If you bought property there, i'd say it mite be good for a nice vacation in the mountains once in a while. Gas prices as well as prices in the local markets are slightly higher there as well (but cheap I guess if your coming from the big cities).

Butterfly kisses: Funny you should mention Hawkins County, that is where we are looking now.

Gundoc - I am sure Sneedeville is quiet, but I am still worried about the snow.

We will be visiting the area right after Christmas and thru the New Year. I hate to jinx the locals, but I hope we have some bad weather. That could help us in our decision.

Thanks again everyone. Your input is very helpful.
