Default Sneedville

MBMouse - Help!!!!
I think I found some property!!!! What can you (or anyone) tell me about Sneedville - the in East TN - not the one near Nashville.

I have probably driven thru, but don't remember. I can see that it is probably very rural - that's fine. What about the people? Is this one of the small communities that doesnt like outsiders??

If this is a good area, this property is a great find.

Thanks.

P.S. Hurry, before another piece gets bought out from under my nose!

BREATH!!! hahahah
Sneedville is in Hancock County, it is on the TN/ VA/KY boarder. VERY rural. Dry. It is very protected by mountains to it's north and south...and east and west too I think. There might be one or two grocery stores and a dollar general, a farm store. But as far as Mall or large chain stores, you would have to drive to Kingsport or Morristown which would be about an hour drive one way. Forget it in snow.I think the people there would be mixed on the "outsider" question. Some would welcome anything new, others would not want anything new. I believe these are one of these towns that families have lived there for many generations.
A few months back we had several threads about sneedville as there was a couple also looking at a great property deal. They drove up here and decided it was not for them, to isolated. But maybe that is what you are looking for? Look back a few pages on this forum, you can't find out about it. There was a woman who lives in Sneedville posted quite a bit about the area.
Hope that helps!

yep! you might be able to buy beer like you can in Hawkins County, but if you are like me and enjoy a nice glass of wine with your meal, you will have to drive to Kingsport or Johnson City to get it.
Hancock County gets more snow than most as it is in mountains.

I enjoy a nice glass of wine with everything!

I went back and found the old thread like you said, and that was very informative. Now I am just waiting on the realtor to call back.

Sneedville is a little farther away from the action than what we had in mind, but this is a deal worth looking into before we just poo poo the town as being too rural. And, with the way land is selling in E TN, I doubt it will stay rural. I would hate to buy something and then 5 years later, be right back where we are now.

Very smart choice! Just because I don't care for that area doesn't mean you won't, you may love it! But be sure you come take a look at it and the area before you commit.
You can always put a contract on a place but one of the contingencies being that you personally inspect and approve the property before obtaining financing. That will put your contract at the front of the line and hold the property till you get here. Don't let a Realtor tell you you can't do it either, You can!
Just a thought

Not So Lost is on a distinguished road
J.R. I looked up the town, they do have a hospital. Definetly good prices on property there. Let me know what comes of your search.

Thanks "JCarn"

I went back and found some old posts and yes, they did get a hospital. That is a big deal for us, we have to be realistic. My husband is 53 and I am 42 but my dad will be coming with us and he is 70 with heart desease.

I talked to the realtor today and I liked everything he had to say about the property.

Right now I just need to get some feedback on the town. It is way off the path that we had planned, so we are thinking hard. I can't go up this weekend (prior commit) and Hubby is commited the following weekend. This happens every time. The realtor expects it to go fast and I agree.

ANYONE familiar with the town, please give your input.
