Does such a place exist? We would like to live in a small town with a real mainstreet area that is family friendly. But I don't want to be considered "weird" because my kids are being raised vegan. Our ideal would be a town with a great farmers market, some like minded ACTIVE people (we love hiking, running, cycling, kayakig) and restaurants that cater to organic and local food with vegan offerings. Any suggestions?

Covington is a pretty cool place, but it is in West Tennessee so may be kind of considered a no no. The hiking I am not sure about there but everything else is cool

Collegedale. Its a college town for the Seventh Day Adventists who promote a Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle so they have a large selection of those kind of goods. There are a lot of hiking activities in the Chattanooga area as well.

Sounds like you'd be happiest in Asheville NC. Probably not going to find what you are looking for in Tennessee.

You might want to consider Bell Buckle. I have some friends from there. Since it is home of The Webb School it is unusual for a small town in the South.

Nothing is going to be what you are probably seeking. Are you going to need jobs? If that is the case, you may not come close to finding what you want. You might have to find some place close to a city. The good news is southern cities are usually in the midst of rural areas.

Ok, any suburbs of bigger cities like Nashville or Knoxville that would be worth checking out?
