Some could pronounce it correctly, assuming it's pronounced the same as the college.

Most would go . . . "A wha?"

;-)

yeah, it's basically pronounced "Brin Mar." Bryn Mawr is welsh for big hill. I'm not sure where this big hill is in Chicago, however. haha!

By the way, I've always enjoyed my trips to Chicago. I don't think I want to live there (a little too cold and windy for me), but it's a great place to visit.

I had no idea that there were "Bryn Mawr"s elsewhere in the country other than outside Philadelphia. Bryn Mawr college is a very prestigious college in the small town of Bryn Mawr, PA. Beautiful, quaint, EXPENSIVE little town.

We pronounced the college and town as brin-mar with actually equal emphasis on each word.

Yeah, it's just basically a road and train stop here. There is a historic district along the road for a few blocks. Bryn Mawr Historic District - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

oh, and alleycat, I was from Michigan to begin with so the weather doesn't bother me. In fact, i'm excited that it's cold finally. Makes it easier to get in the Holiday spirit -- well so does a fully decorated CTA train: holiday train (broken link)
hehe!

The first time I ever went to Chicago I was with a college tour group (we were all architectural students). At one point we were the only ones on a Chicago city bus and got to talking to the driver. He took us on a little tour off route! I thought that was great. My opinion of people in Chicago went up a notch just because of that.

I pronounce Lenoir wrong. I want to say Len wahr (like armoire) and I believe it is Lenore. Also the towns that end in "ette" I always put the accent on the wrong syllable so LaFollette is really Luhfollet and I was trying to put the accent on it like the word pirouette - La Follette.
