Comedy, Only in Tennessee.
Hi, I found this on a southern forum.
Only in Tennessee...
1. You can properly pronounce Ooltewah, La Vergne, Etowah and Maryville, Whitwell. And you know Dunlap isnt just tires!
2. You think people who complain about the heat in their states are sissies.
3. A tornado warning siren is your signal to go out in the yard and look for a funnel.
4. You know that the true value of a parking space is not determined by the distance to the door, but by the availability of shade.
5. Stores don't have bags or shopping carts, they have sacks and buggies.
6. You've seen people wear bib overalls at weddings and funerals.
7. You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.
8. You measure distance in minutes.
9. You go to the lake because you think it is like going to the ocean.
10. You listen to the weather forecast before picking out an outfit.
11. You know cowpies are not made of beef.
12. Someone you know has used a football schedule to plan their wedding date.
13. You know someone who has a belt buckle bigger than your fist.
14. You aren't surprised to find movie rental, ammunition, beer, and bait all in the same store.
15. A Mercedes Benz isn't a status symbol. A Chevy Silverado Extended Bed Crew Cab is.
16. You know everything goes better with Ranch and A1.
17. You learned how to shoot a gun before you learned how to multiply.
18. You actually get these jokes and are "fixin'" to send them to your friends.
And finally:
19. You are 100% Tennessean if you have ever had this conversation: "You wanna coke?" "Yeah." "What kind?" "Dr. Pepper

The real test is Lafayette and Shelbyville. I think they make the TV people in Nashville take a class on how these are pronounced here before they're allowed on the air.

And don't forget Maury County. I've even heard a few TV people (even a newby here in Knoxville) who pronounced Blount as if it rhymes with "frowned."

and what about Santa Fe? I think my mom told me once that one of the weathermen said it wrong and then the next day he said it right. He must have gotten some calls or something, hah!

I have seen them pronouce Santa Fe correctly (for here) and then explain that it is pronounced that way and not like the Santa Fe in New Mexico.

Mosheim (small town in Greene Co) is always mispronounced. I always hear outsiders call it mo-sheem, but it is moss-ime.

We need help.
I think I need some help. I don't think I know how to pronounce any of those places, except maybe Murvil.
I do believe that there should be a Tennessee Dictionary for anyone who doesn't want to look like a bigger goof than they already are!!!
But, I do love the list, John1960!
