Thanks, AlleyCat for your comments. I just need to get myself down to the nursery down the way (Willow Ridge), and see what a serviceberry looks like before they're all "naked".

I'm not crazy about Bradfords -- though they are lovely in the Fall, and are fast growers. Historically, they are prone to splitting around 15 years, and unless kept well pruned, are too dense for my taste.

One of my favorites is the Chinese Pistache...but I don't think I've seen any here in TN. My East TN Tree book recommends them as an "under-used in E. TN areas choice". Are you familiar with them, or know of any plantings of them locally?

I have been going nutso over the elegant and huge Elm trees of some sort that are the gorgeous gold and very stately in their appearance. Obviously too large for our yard...but sure to loooooooove looking at them!

I'd love to get a digital with a viewfinder. It's the way I'm use to taking pictures.
I have to have a viewfinder. I find I can't use the LCD because of my glasses and I don't like popping them on and off.

I have to tell a story. I like to feed the ducks/geese/other birds when I go down to the lake but some are REALLY aggressive. Yesterday, I threw them some crackers and they were happy and eating on the grass when I saw some birds fly by in formation. I'm in the parking lot and I'm looking through the viewfinder squeezing off some shots, oblivious to my surroundings, when I feel something tapping me in the stomach. Directly in front of me is this huge goose and even though I'm staring him down (he violated my space ) he taps at me again in the stomach like to ask "Where's the grub, bub?" So, I toss him some crackers (on the grass) and walk much further away to another area to take more photos. About a half hour later I'm walking back to my car and this huge goose, not sure if it's the same one) is walking behind me trying to catch up. I get in my car, the door is closed and I'm sitting in there reviewing my photos out of the sun so I can see them, when the goose stretches his neck up and starts looking in the side view mirror on the driver's side. Then he turns his neck, sees me and starts tapping on my car door (not kidding). I ignored him but thought that was pretty cheeky. Then he walks around to the back of my car and starts tapping on the rear of the car as if to say, "I know you're in there, now come on out." YIKES!

Anyway, I got a lot of photos of a crane yesterday and will post one of those and some more Fall photos taken today outside of Oak Ridge if I see anything good.

I have a Bradford. It's over twenty years old and is still a pretty nice tree. The trouble in Nashville is they planted too many of them years ago.

There would be nothing wrong with you getting a maple as long as your yard isn't really small. Maples are heavy leaf droppers (hey the voice of someone who has raked A LOT of maples leaves in his life); and the shade is so dense that it can be hard to have a really good lawn underneath them; also, you don't want to park a car under a maple. Personally, I find that the nursery people often recommend what they have a lot of (I used to know a place here in Nashville that recommended hemlocks for everyone). Still, a serviceberry is a fine tree.

I'm not familiar with the Chinese Pistache.

I'll think a bit and see if anything else comes to mind as an alternate to a maple. One of the larger cherries might be a possibility (beautiful in the spring and the bark adds interest in the winter); one of the ashes; maybe even a non-fruiting sweet gum.

LC. A POND CYPRESS ( Taxodium ascendens) does have a pyramidal shape, orange / brown fall leaves, Relative of the Bald Cypress, but that type of tree is what is in Mid Florida CYPRESS Gardens water ski park , half into the water, but Roots. . Guess you will have to break a branch and take to Nursery expert to solve the Story.!. Cypress leaves sort of FERN like. IMO .?
. V.M. Guess easy way for pics is upload to album web (Webshots, PhotoBucket), Select, re-size, Copy& Paste into Body. ? Clear as mud.

Default Fal pics from 11/16/07

I took the camera with me yesterday to snap some fall pictures in the Tri-Cities area for y'all like I said I would but I was so surprised! I believe the "peek" colors were on Wednesday and Thursday and that was it. The color was just not as vibrant yesterday as they were the two prior days. I don't know if it was the light, the atmosphere, the temp or what but they were just not as pretty, I am so bummed I didn't have the camera with me on Wednesday or Thursday.
But anyway, here is what I did see on Friday.

Nice photos, mb. That's kind of a funny house in photo 5 . . . like someone tried to build a mini White House.

Uh, unless it's your house. Then forget I said it was funny.
