My wife and I are looking to get out of Michigan in the next 6 months. We are sick of the cold winters, we have grown up here and just need a change. Both of us are 29 with no children and do not plan on having children so schools are not a deciding factor. My wife has her business degree and can most likely relocate anywhere, and I am looking to open a home based business in the wedding industry. Both of us enjoy being outdoors riding our Harley, Golfing, Camping, and just being outside. We were originally looking at Nashville but we want to be within a hour or so of the Smokey Mountains. Can anyone tell me how far Nashville is from the start of the Smokeys? Maybe we could live somewhere in between? Our plan is to rent for at least the first couple of years until we decide exactly where we want to live long term. We would like to be right around $1000 per month for a rental.

Have you considered Knoxville or Maryville? Those might be two good options to research.

Knoxville would be a good bet for jobs in you want to be near the Smokies.

Make sure to get jobs lined up before moving down though. Thats our usual advice to all on this forum, so dont think I am picking on you.

Maybe we will look into the Knoxville area too. Can anyone tell me how far Nashville is from the start of the Smokies?

It's about a 3 hour drive

Always consult the great and mighty Google.

I Googled "nashville, tn to great smoky mountain national park" and first on the list was this website:

Driving Distance and Drive Times from Nashville, Tennessee to National Parks -- Find driving distances and drive time from Nashville to National Parks

Answer is four hours.

However, if I were you, I would have simply Googled "Nashville, TN to Townsend, TN" (and you can figure out that a town like Townsend would be about the start of the GSMNP by consulting a Google map).

Answer is 3 hours 9 minutes. I suspect that is dead-on. (And the prize goes to Edgefield D!)

If you had done that, you would have received your answer in a few minutes, if that. If you want to start a wedding business, you'll need to navigate the internet. Using Google is good start. Google maps - and its street view - is a Godsend and will be instrumental in your relocation efforts, as well.
