Heading to Savannah
Hi there, was just curious. I am planning a move this march/april from the west coast, can anyone tell me where I can look into rentals before I start my trek? Been out there 2 times and thought it was absolutely gorgeous, loved it, and am looking forward to becoming part of it. Thanks for the help

I do not have clue about rentals, but I will say that the area is wonderful and the people are so friendly. You also cannot beat the history of the area. Just watch out for the humity in the summer and the bugs. There are also some areas in the county that are prone to flooding.
While I never lived there my ex-inlaws do and they love it!!!! I visited there so many times over a 18 year period I felt like it was my second home and came really close to moving there a few times.
Good Luck to You!

Do you know what Wayne County or Waynesboro are like? This seems to be nearby. People, topology, are there a lot of trees? It seems to be less expensive than the rest of the state to buy a house on many acres. Any clues as to why?

hello
Waynesboro is a nice area it a small town, but has the stuff you need. I think the people there are really nice, the times I have been there I have always beens struck by their friendliness.
As far as property value, I can only assume it may because there are not any of the major Tennessee cities close by and industry has not became huge there. Memphis is the largest city in the area and you still have to drive a good distance to get there.
I know Hardin County/Savannah is know for it's trees. That area overall has an abundance of them. It very beautiful in the spring and fall.
I really think you would love the area.

Thanks for the reply. It is starting to seem like it is as you say, the reason for lower property values is the lack of jobs. Do you know what most people do for employment? I'm glad to hear the area is beautiful, that's what I'm looking for.

Savannah Bound as well
After Katrina ravaged our area we decided to retire some other place. We love Savannah. My parents also bought their home there as their home here in New Orleans was destroyed. I am moving in July. If you need a Real Estate Agent let me know.

It is a beuatiful area, we have 7 acres for sale 15 minutes from Savannah, in a smaller country area called Adamsville. It's listed here on page 2 (right now) if you'd be interested in buying instead of renting. Good Luck!

I am also looking at transplanting to Savannah TN over the coming 9 months! I am originally from the state of Oregon (as in FOREVER) until we moved to Virginia 4 yrs ago. Married daughter and son in law have found property in Savannah large enough for several families at an affordable price...unlike you would ever find here in Virginia. We have gotten ourselves pretty well acclimated to the humidity; don't think it would be worse than here in VA, is it? I hear that there are abundant mosquitoes, but have also heard that those are mostly found around standing water. Could someone comment on this please. Also the lack of a leash law. Is that specific to Savannah, or Hardin county, or TN in general? Are there a lot of roaming dogs?
Thanks for your assistance.

In Tennessee, it is unlawful to permit a dog to run at large, unless the dog is engaged in legal hunting or herding.

Can one more Floridian join in
We are so anxious to get the heck out of dodge. Big problem now is no one is buying homes down here in SW Florida. Too expensive and the insurance is out of sight. We are vacationing in Savanah in July to look for property. some acreage not much but enough to raise a few chickens and such. Any suggestions for a locale? We will still need to work for a couple of years also. Can we find any jobs nearby?
