Default Shoreline residential development limited by TVA provision...

For decades, people have been migrating in greater numbers to waterfront houses along the banks of the Tennessee River and its tributaries like the burgeoning population of eagles, ospreys and herons that now nest along the river system's reservoirs.

And, with the Tennessee Valley Authority's decision last year to stop selling surplus property for residential development, the supply has shrunk, making it more difficult - and expensive - to put together tracts of land suitable for large-scale development.

Hmmm...we've got a little 1/2 acre in Loudon, just off Watts Bar Lake, separated by 300' of TVA land from the shoreline

TVA said they'll let us clear a swath out to the shoreline through their land so we would have access to the lake, and said we should put through an application for a dock too.

Does this mean that my little pet 1/2 acre is maybe worth more than the $9,000 we paid, now that it's approved to build?

If so, this would be the first time I actually made an investment decision that increased in value... (AND as a bonus, would prove my husband wrong! lol).

Awesome, I can't wait to go down there in the spring and pitch our tent on our little lot. And meet up with lots of my C-D buddies! lol

And we're truly southerners in training, even though we're still in NJ. We're great, earnest students and already embrace the TN culture (even though we get made fun of here).

I'm glad to know that they're reining in the development in the area. (now that I have my little slice...I know, I know).

Be careful. If you build the dock, and it's on T.V.A. property, the public may have access to it's use. Check and make sure.
