well the town in NH where these ads are is very similar to TN. Very rural, in the middle of the mountain valley with views of Mt. Washington and surrounding mountains everywhere you look and not much employment. I think that's why i liked TN as it reminded me of home a lot only it doesn't get so cold. Though i'm heading back to NH for a short time, i'm still looking forward to TN as well.

Oh my longjohns, goodbyehollywood, is that ever the truth!!!! Freeze all of your parts off in the windchill.
We lived on an island at the mouth of Lake Erie in Michigan for 16 years and that wind in winter made the wrought iron railing on our porch actually sing - high E, I think! We thought we had spooks living in the house for the longest time until we tracked down the nighttime song!
I love Tennessee!
The Mount Washington area is certainly beautiful, daniellefort, but bitter cold in the winter.
I used to love our visits to NH in the summers while we lived in MA. Just gorgeous.
Tennessee does win hands down in the winter weather department, though, doesn't it? Hurry back and keep in touch while you are in NH.
You have been such a big help to me and others. I'll always appreciate your kind words to me when I first joined the forum. You'll always have a friend here!

Great post I own property in tn and hope to build someday and no I'm not looking to move there asap. Just simply fell in love with the area. Have many years before retirement is even considered. Hope the local government watches and controls growth I would hate to see what is happening to the southeast coast of Florida happen anywhere else. Gem you are right watch the auto industry word is there wanting to renegotiate union contracts which will probably get very ugly I believe this economy will get allot worse before we see it get better. Really feel sorry for our younger generations kids to be. It'll be the haves and the have nots no more middle class.

Oh no, Daniellefort, they start infomercialling New Hampshire and I will lock and load. Yes, ma'am.
Cold? This ain't cold. And I love cold.
The deals are in Chicago. Su-weet.
Tennessee is getting killed by the Floridans and the Californians and all the other stragglers.
No thanks.
I can get a beautiful, architectural home with Broadway plays, museums, decent food and snow, for a deal?
Load up the Saturn!

Wait just a gawl-durn minute! (My dad used to say stuff like that. Love it!)
Halt, hiknapster and daniellefort!! There will be no deserters here!
Hik, Chicago has great restaurants, big skyscrapers, Oprah Winfrey (at least in name), great live theatre and really good pizza. But, it also has long cold winters, outrageous cost of living, no mountains, and practically no one from TN. Why go to someplace like that?
Daniellefort can go to NH because she will be back in a flash. But hiknapster in Chicago? Now, we're talking lock and load!

Oh, I am so going to Chicago. It is the best deal in the country.
Two years ago, Tennessee was a great deal. And granted, no one is coming here right now.
But from an economic standpoint, Chicago, is the best deal going. Oh doggie, it is cheap, right now. Get those deals in New York or LA.
It's a dang city, with museums, great schools, incredible architecture, real food, and I can live in a town right outside of it. And we can make great money there.
Sorry, but I'm not feeling Knoxville or its houses.
The people were nice, but not that nice, and quite frankly, some were pretty hostile. And there were much as drugs out here in the mountains that there were in Florida.
I am not really interested in a place where Walmart is king. That's the most requested place on the Tennessee forums.
Do I fit in? No.

You should stop trying to hold your emotions in, hiknapster. It's not good for you.
Well, Hik, you just made a ton of friends!!
We'll have to keep a better watch on your internet surfing. You just cannot be trusted with a keyboard and mouse!

Dang. Did I tick people off?
I should probably shut up, before the masses start following me, looking for a Walmart, a Home Depot, low crime, Mayberry, good schools, and the ability to "fit in."
Ghaaa.
Pardon me, all, I think I'm coming down with something.
Might be traveling feet.

Well, best of luck to you, hiknapster! I hope Chicago is more your cup of tea than Knoxville. It's a heckuva town, lots to offer, though I have to say, I don't consider it much of a deal. I have friends who live in a half-million dollar apartment that has all the charm of a shoebox. Okay, so maybe an Italian shoebox. Still.
Happy trails! (And to think you're going just when we're getting a Costco. Soon that will be the most talked about thing on the TN forum. Take that, Walmart!)
Personal disclosure: I have never been in a Walmart and never intend to. I don't even like Sam's.
