I'm not from Dover, but I was around the area a lot when I was younger, and I have family there (if you move and meet anyone named Gibbs, they're probably my relatives on my grandmother's side).
Dover is just a small town a bit like Mayberry. The economy in Stewart County tends to be a little worse than the national or state average. There's not a lot of industry in the area. It's a great place to live if you like fishing or boating or outdoor stuff with nearby Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, Ft. Donelson Battlefield, and Land Between the Lakes. There's a few stores in Dover for basic goods, but when I was younger people in Stewart County used to drive to Clarksville for shopping. Clarksville is the nearest town of any size. Overall I would say it's a pretty nice place to live, but your employment situation might be the determining factor.

I grew up in Dover and I highly reccomend it. Someone mentioned that it is a lot like Mayberry and they are right. It is a small town where everyone waves as they drive past each other in their cars. It is very common to be honked "hello" at when you are sitting on your front porch. I moved away for a job (there really isn't many placed to work there) but currently I am trying to sell my house so I can move back. But if you are used to the city and like convenience then Dover isn't the place for you. If you need anything (Wal-Mart, Hospital, etc) it is about a 45 minute drive to the neareest city. The only other drawback that I can think of is that because it is a small town, everyone knows everyone's business. That can get kind of irritating. If you are looking for a relaxing, laid back place to call home then this is it.

Dover, TN
My wife is from Dover and we visit there several times a year. It's a friendly little town with a few great spots to eat out. People are friendly there, and it is a bit like Mayberry.

How do you deal with medical emergencies? My neighbor in a small town, 20 miles from Nashville had to go last week. For those retiring...isn't this a real concern at your age?
