Fairfield Glade or Lake Tansi??
I, like so many others, want to move to TN. I now live in a house on a deep water canal that leads to the Indian River which then leads to the Atlantic. Watching the birds fish and the mullet jump helps me forget how miserable FL has become. Therefore, I want to be on water, which soothes me.
1) Could someone please compare the advantages of these 2 communities or any other area where there are lakefront properties for sale.
2) What are the association dues for FFG and LT?
3) How many restaurants are there in each community? I almost never cook since I became a widow.
4) Are there any inexpensive restaurants in Crossville?
5) I know Crossville has a WalMart. Does it have any other national chains for shopping and / or groceries? Is there a Lowe's or Home Depot?
6) Are there any rules about fencing property in FFG or LT? I have a dog who likes to be out and about, but I don't want her leaving her "gifts" in other people's yards.
7) Are there rules about cats? I sold a NC condo because they wanted me to leash my cats. Have you ever tried to walk a cat on a leash? I tried; I honestly did.
8) Is the local hospital any good, or should I plan on going to Cookeville?
9) Before I bought the NC condo, I owned a small house in a NC "resort" that had rules about trees, colors of houses, etc. Does either FFG or LT have those sort of rules?
10) The main reason I sold my NC "resort" house was because I had to drive a twisty, up and down road with at least 3 cutbacks to get to the main road to town. I don't mind mountain roads, but roads that tend to make me carsick are not something with which I want to contend. Do the roads from FFG or LT into Crossville have cutbacks?
11) Are there any trout streams or rivers in the area? I might want to catch one--if I can, but I know my brother would want to go fishing for a trout.
Any help any of you can give me would be appreciated. I'm also scoping out Cookeville, but the lakes seem to be pretty far from town. I couldn't find a river in Cookeville, either. Is there one? Is there one in Crossville?
Thanks. You people who live in TN are helpful and nice, and I'm sure you will be again.

Glenda, know where you are... been there. It's hard to gather info... so much, so little on-location help to be found! Been where you are for 4 years, but hang in there. I did find some good people eventually, and will be there in March, putting my move in place. Be glad to give you the benefit of my own struggle and refer you to those who have helped me then and/or now.

1) FFG is more 'built-up' and has more amenities than Tansi...this may be an advantage or disadvantage..depending on how you look at it...
2) Who knows...call the respective places to find out.
3) More places to eat within FFG than Tansi..although Cross-vegas isn't too far...personally, I like Manny and Isabellas!
4) Tons...local Mom and Pops...along with chain places...
5) Lowes, Food City, Kroger, Tractor Supply, Dollar General, Staples and so on and so forth...
6 and 7) Check with each community on the 'rules'...I'm sure that different sections have different rules...rules are good, it helps keep people from JUNKING up the entire neighborhood...
8) The hospital is GREAT!....you may want to go to Cookeville for some specialized type care...check to see what Cumberland Medical Center offers and what they don't...they are good folks and so are the people at CRMC in Cookeville....CMC in Crossville will be MUCH closer.
9) Again, check with the community.
10) No...sounds like you are just starting your 'looking'...why not go for a visit to each community. Do not be put-off by state Highway 101 leading into Fairfield...it is ALL junked-up looking..that's what happens when you allow anyone to build anything.
11) I'm sure someone might lead you to a trout river, but I don't know where it would be...don't fish for trout...
There is City Lake in Cookeville...it's small, but nice....enjoy your search and let us know how we can help!

1) I would have to give the main advantage here to FFG. It's in a more scenic location, and the mixture of the lake and mountains is beautiful.
2) It would be best to call and find out, but last I saw, dues for FFG were around $775 a year, and Tansi considerably cheaper around $170 a year. Again, call and check. It's been years.
3) Just a few places in each community.
4) Most restaurants in Crossville are inexpensive.
5) Lowes, Kroger, Food Lion, Food City, Big K, Big Lots, Dollar General, Staples, Radio Shack, Walgreens, CVS etc... FFG does have a Food City, making grocery shopping a bit more convenient, though Tansi is a bit closer to Crossville.
6) Not sure that it would answer your question, but I have seen fenced yards in both communities. It may, however, be different in different neighborhoods within the communities.
7) Not sure about a condo, but if it's your house, then it's your house. If you let your cat outside, that's your prerogative, but don't be surprised to see dogs running loose.
8) The hospital in Crossville is great, and ever expanding, but as someone already mentioned, some specialty things may have to be done in Cookeville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga. Welcome To Cumberland Medical Center
9) That's another thing that's probably from neighborhood to neighborhood. I know a portion of Tansi is upscale, a portion is subdivisions, but some of it is also just country where you are free to build what you want. A trip down Sequoya will let you realize the rules are pretty laxed. As for FFG, I really don't know.
10) I'm not sure I know what a "cutback" is, but both communities feature hilly and windy roads.
11) Never caught a trout in Crossville, but then again, I would probably suck at trout fishing. I really have no clue. I've caught plenty of bass in the streams here.
Crossville has some small rivers. Nothing to write home about, but they are the inlet and outlet of the beautiful lakes.
Here's a slideshow of some pictures of Tansi, if you're interested.
