You're not big on shopping anyway, LauraC, but there are a lot of people hopping mad about this in Oak Ridge. Turkey Creek really is not far away for Oak Ridge denizens but I guess if you don't like OR anyway, this gives you one more reason.

The Sears in Hickory Hollow Mall (Antioch/Nashville) is also set to close.

I have forgotten about the KMart store in Oak Ridge until I googled its location. How could I have forgotten that store?

This makes sense for Sears to close the store in Cleveland. Big KMart is located in the same shopping mall (Bradley Square Mall).

A Wal-Mart store is being built in Sweetwater, where KMart has been the lone big-name player in town since the mid-to-late mid-1980s. I bet the store will suffer big time. There is another KMart store nearby (in Athens).

I am shocked that the Kmart in Johnson City is not on that list-yet. They are in a terrible location, hardly get any business, and are not competitive in that market.

I'll be shocked if they don't all close by the end of 2012. Just a feeling. I could be wrong, though.

I hope not that soon. The four K-Mart stores near here seem to be doing just OK. Sears would probably be better off selling its K-Mart division.

I can't help but feel that Sears is doomed, too. Stores like Best Buy and Lowe's are much newer and cleaner. Sears' clothing selection is designed for people of my grandparents' generation. (I'm 24.) All of the Sears stores that I've been in have been dingy and dirty with poor lighting.

The K-mart in Johnson City literally has tarp strung up through the back of the store, from where they downsized from a Super K. These stores are closing, it's just a long and painful close, as opposed to a quick one like Circuit City.

Actually K-mart bought out Sears. Doesn't seem to have helped them any though, all K-mart did was take Sears down with them. A shame what greed and poor management can do to a company.
