A cool July made me think this would be the case.

I saw one of the local Nashville weather-persons do an analysis of the 8 coldest Julys going back to the 1880s and compared the following winter's temps to spot a trend. Obviously, it was a fairly small sample size, but the findings were something like 4 were colder, 3 were average, and 1 was warmer. So, basically...the jury is out.
