Small Town
Hi Everyone, I am looking for a small town near a large city. Does anyone remember the movie where Chevy Chase and his wife moved to a small town up in New England. There was a town square decorated at christmas, they had a farm and old but beautiful home. It was a comedy!!!! I am looking for the same kind of atmosphere. It would just be so wonderful to walk around town at Christmas with all the decorations and carolers, and at Easter a Easter Parade around the square where the men walk with the women to show off their outfits. Maybe I am just dreaming but I really want to see this again. I miss the years gone by and I'm looking to get it back. Any suggestions?? Must be in the Eastern half of Tennessee. Thanks, Kathy.

From what I've heard about East TN, pretty much all the small towns are like that. I don't know as much about Easter, but from what I gather, Christmas is a big deal in most small towns (and the larger ones, too). The most exciting thing is that people are actually allowed to say the word "Christmas." Imagine that.

A Dickens of a Christmas
Franklin has a Christmas festival every year.......Victorian in theme. There are carolers, horse drawn carriages, etc. Downtown Franklin is the town square you are looking for. Really pretty and as old-time Christmas as you can get. Lots of good shopping and restaurants.
You just missed the Pumpkin Festival......

Eastern Tennessee Small Town
Ever try Marysville? It's rated pretty high among small towns for retirement. It's South of Knoxville, and not far from the Smokies.

Sounds like Jonesborough to me. Not for the Easter show off parade thing, but I think you will be hard pressed to find that anywhere.
