My brothers and their wives seem to have picked from the most popular lists when naming my nephews Ethan, Jakob, and Dylan! All are in Western, NY though...

Now I liked the name Addison long before that show came on (not that I have kids or are planning to, well, ever), and the fact that I now ride a bus down Addison street every day is just hilarious to me.

I mean, my name is Sarah Jane, so maybe I should ask my mom if she had some horrible feelings toward Gerald Ford when she named me (granted I was born a few years after that, but still, hah).

I'm not surprised about "Michael" and "Joshua." Michael is my dad's name, and Joshua is my brother's name. They are active in the Boy Scouts and for awhile there were at least 10 different people (adult and child) in their troop who had the name "Michael" or "Joshua." There are numerous other "Michaels" my family and I know as well.

"Stephen" is another popular one. My brother-in-law's name is "Steve," and at one point before he married my sister he was roommate with two other "Steves". Needless to say, they pretty much just referred to each other by their last names, although sometimes they would get a phone call for "Steve" and have to ask "which one?"

Smile Think 25 years down the road when choosing your baby's name!

When we choose the names for our 4 sons starting 37 years ago (!), we tried to pick names that were timeless. We choose David, Michael and Eric. They have always been around and probably always will be.

I, then, went brain-dead choosing our 4th son's name, Zach. How many Zacharys are there today? Toooo many. We call him Zachariah, so it is a bit different, but he is still a "Zach".

It is so important to use care in choosing a child's name. We should try to pick a moniker that will not embarrass them someday if it shows up on a business card or nameplate on their office door.

These choices should be no-nos:
Bushwhack Smithe, V.P. of Logistics, General Motors
or
Bootsie Bunker, Quality Control Officer of Sealy Posturepedic Co.

I agree. My husband was named after family names, one from each side. One side was Stephens and thus he was given the name Stephen.

Gem - We have another thing in common. My one son's name is Michael and we almost named him Zachariah. Twilight zone music playing in the background - do, do, do, do...do, do, do, do!

My other son's name is Scott. People think we named them after another famous pair, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Nope, just the way it worked out! And I'm an Indiana Pacers fan. Figures, I chose one sport not to follow Chicago in!

What happened to Southerners naming their boys Travis? I really like that name and it holds up through their senior years.

Oh, I forgot to mention, my sister's name is "Stephanie"... Stephen and Stephanie

My name is Kristina, which at least helps with all the "Chris" names which start with "Ch."

I once worked with someone whose last name was "Heller-Boos" (maiden name/married name contraction).

The longest name in the Bible is "Mahershalalhashbaz." Imagine THAT on your business card, LOL.
