I wish I could change my name to "Queen of the Hill".

Gem - We have another thing in common. My one son's name is Michael and we almost named him Zachariah. Twilight zone music playing in the background - do, do, do, do...do, do, do, do!
My other son's name is Scott. People think we named them after another famous pair, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Nope, just the way it worked out! And I'm an Indiana Pacers fan. Figures, I chose one sport not to follow Chicago in!

That is really funny, Grizzly. Our son Zach was supposed to be Zachariah Scott. My husband did not like the "Zach", so I told hubby we would just call him by his middle name, "Scott".
Well, the best of intentions! Everyone was confused and family and friends were calling him everything under the sun (ahem, not son ). So, I started the Zach. But, his middle name is "Scott". do-do-do-do, do-da-day!!
My third son is Michael Joseph-Donald (both of our father's names for middle name). My best friend thought that was way too long for a kid to learn, so she called him "My-Jo-Doe". It has stuck for all of these years. He is called Mike primarily, but once annoyed, we all will call out "My-Jo-Doe"!!

I got stuck with a middle name that's been in my family for generations (it's from the Bible): Enoch. My father had it, his father, his father . . .
I've always disliked it. I promised if I ever had a son the traditional would come to a sudden end.

Since Alleycat shared, I will, too.
My middle name is Iva, which is my grandmother's name, who died before I was born.
That's the "i" in "hiknapster."
I rarely admit to that.
I think Enoch is very nice.

I love old names!
I like Enoch a lot, alleycat! And, Iva is a beautiful name, Hi*. It is one of those old-fashioned names that you don't hear at all any more. Be proud of your name.
Iva reminds me of Ida, the main character in "Cold Mt." It seems if you know a person that you really like or can identify with, their name becomes very lovely to you. I think that is why "Rumpelstilskin" never caught on!
I got my middle name because my Aunt Madeline promised my mother and dad a new baby carriage if I was named after her. Pact was sealed. My mother couldn't bring herself to name me Madeline, so it became my middle name. I still feel like I have to give the carriage back to my Aunt Madeline!! And, I like that name.

I've heard Bubba many times here in N. GA and I think that good old tried and true Mary Sue will be here for a long time.

We had 1 girl name and 2 boy names picked out when I went into labor with my son. We chose not to know the gender, and expected a girl. When our son was born, I wanted Cooper, and my husband wanted David. In my stupor I agreed to David. Good thing now, as there are quite a few Coopers around.
Years ago I had 2 roommates. We all had fairly unusal names- Ariana, Alicia, and Melina. You can't imagine the "creative" spellings on our junk mail

That's very funny, gemthornton . Unfortunately, I can identify with your son. Apparently when I was a baby our family would frequently go to Taco Bell and my favorite thing to eat was the side of refried beans with cheese (it's also probably one of the only things I could eat from Taco Bell at that age). So, my dad dubbed me "Beanie."
Thankfully, I'm not called by that name much anymore, but my younger brother, brother-in-law, and a few family friends will tease me with it once in awhile. My brother-in-law actually changes it up a little and calls me "Krisbeanza" (a Beanie-Kristina combination), while my dad would call me "Kristinie Beanie" when he's feeling particularly sentimental .

All very comical stories!
Sunkrist, aka Beanie, that is really funny! My personal favorite has to be your dad's - Kristinie Beanie. It's so wonderful to be loved by a dad!!
Akm, I can just imagine the names that jumbling the 3 of yours must have produced. Very funny.

My grandmother was Olive. She was fair skinned and blond haired. One of her sisters was Golda. She was darker skinned and dark haired. My mother was Leota. I have never seen another Leota. It was some type of family name.
My maiden name is very long. My father wanted to name me after his oldest sister, Ruby. My mother wanted a more modern first name to go with the long last name. As you can tell, she won with Carol. My father insisted that I have his sister's middle name, Lee. And, he wanted to call me Carol Lee all the time. I hated it. It all blew up on a visit to my Aunt Ruby and her husband. She had been called Ruby Lee while growing up. She hated it. So, I got to be just Carol and she got to be just Ruby.
Names go in cycle. There are going to be a great many Grandma Tiffanys.
