Rugby, TN
Has anyone here been to Rugby? Sounds like a great place to "geek out on history" and enjoy some hiking.
Anyone? Bueller?

DH and I go occasionally and one of my co-workers has a second home there in the village behind the church.
It is a great place to visit and we like to do the entire area. We toured Sgt York's house, went to the winery (good stuff), went to Allardt, Jamestown, Muddy Pond (great bakery there), etc. We stayed at The Gray Gables B&B. Linda, the owner, is a great cook. We did not do any hiking, but we had a nice time touring the area by car.
I would definitely recommend a trip to the Rugby area.

Rugby's a truly unique place and well worth the trip. If you have enough time to squeeze in some serious hiking, try Frozen Head State Park (SE of Rugby) or Big South Fork NRA (N of Rugby). Big South Fork is a huge, wild & wonderful place that I wish I could get away to more often.

YES YES YES!!! SmokyMtnGal mentioned quite a few things to do around Rugby. Coming from Nashville, you could easily swing through Muddy Pond on your way to/from Rugby. Muddy Pond is located between Monterey and Clarkrange.
Rugby is right next to Big South Fork National Recreation Area which has hundreds of miles of beautiful trails including trails for horses. It's a rugged wilderness.
I posted some pictures of Rugby here:

I hope you can get there and enjoy it as much as I do. It's a fascinating village in one of the most beautiful parts of the state.

Thank you SO much. I was almost afraid to ask, lest the answers dampen our enthusiasm. Thrilled to see the opposite!
Thanks for the pix, JMT. You always come through!

Big South Fork and Muddy Pond are great! I found Muddy Pond by accident (can't read a map lol) and just fell in love. Great horse trails in Big South Fork if you have a hankerin'. You might want to extend your visit

Anyone who hasn't been to Rugby for the Valentines or Christmas dinner is missing out. Need to reserve a spot but the four course meal was fantastic, the atmosphere cozy and romantic with the fireplaces and oil lamps and pianist. Well worth the visit. I will definitely return.

Been there, done that, ate lunch (shepherd's pie) and enjoyed it. Wish I had had more time to explore.
