Guidance for a visit to Lynchburg
Hey everyone,
My wife and I are planning to spend two days in Lynchburg en route to another place this coming May, and I wanted to get some advice from those of you who know a little about the town. It's been about eight years since I was there and don't remember a whole lot.
Basically, the big three things I want to know:
-- What's there to do (besides the big obvious distillery )
-- Where do you recommend we stay? (B&Bs are what we're hoping for)
-- Is there a good restaurant or two nearby that'll be open for dinner? (non-chain...and something closer than Tullahoma)
I have some ideas about those questions, but I'd like to hear what you might have to say. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I don't think there's a whole lot to do in Lynchburg other than the obvious, but as far as restaurants go, you must eat at Miss Mary Bobo's. It's in an old boarding house downtown, and it's wildly popular. Everyone gathers in the foyer for a blessing on the food, then everyone sits at huge tables and eats family style, meaning you'll be at a table with total strangers with all the food placed in the middle. It's absolutely the best Southern style comfort food on the planet. Imagine Cracker Barrel type food but authentic and with the best homemade hot buttered yeast rolls anywhere. By the end of the meal you'll have made new friends and will waddle out of the restaurant feeling completely satisfied and at peace with the world.
Because it's so popular, you need to make reservations well in advance. I don't have a phone number for them, but I'm sure you could Google it.

The Jack Daniels site has the number for Miss Mary Bobo's. It also had a list of restuarants in the area.

Required dining in Lynchburg:)
I was just at Miss Mary Bobo's a couple weeks ago. Our hostess was Jack Daniel's great-niece, herself.
I strongly suggest you call and make a reservation ASAP, as to avoid waiting on the porch of shame as we did. It worked out, but wasn't fun watching everyone else be warmly greeted and seated as we were left to smell the food wafting from the windows........wondering if we'd be allowed inside or not .
Just call!
295 Main St
Lynchburg, TN 37352

Don't forget to take a walk around the charming square. Touristy shops, but fun, nonetheless.

Thanks for suggestions! Miss Mary Bobo's sounds like just the place I was hoping to find.
I'll make reservations tomorrow!

Not quite as glamorous, but I'm decended from Daniel Call, the fellow who taught Mr. Daniel how to make whiskey. In a perfect world, I'd be a bigger part of the whiskey legacy and rolling in the money now, too, but alas....
