I'd build a tiny house by my favorite creek in the smokies but the park service might have something to say about that.

I like that Johnson city is right close next to the mountains and is most likely to have a legal creekside spot nearby. Though there are a few in Gatlinburg if you don't mind crowds and can afford them.

I like the location of Erwin as it is convenient to Asheville for day trips. I've read it is not welcoming to outsiders but what a quaint town.

As much as I dislike Memphis, I think it's the most interesting place to live in TN. There are so many quirks, good soulful food, music, and other general "things only Memphians appreciate". It's hard to explain.

If I couldn't live in Memphis, I would probably leave the state. I wouldn't mind spending more time around Nashville and Chattanooga though.

some people here say they like Mountains, East TN

but I would move to Lawrenceburg. I love tornados

I hope to die in one

I've lived here my whole life with plenty of tornado warnings and severe storms but the basin just protects us from the heaviest of it

except for that one flood that one time

yeah, would go to Lawrenceburg and tornado alley. love the adventure and would be even better if I lived in a trailer there too.

I could get it all on film.

There's a lot to like about Lawrenceburg:

Love that fruit tea...

As for a place to move, I like the upper Duck or Elk River watersheds (Manchester, Winchester) or the mountains near Sewanee (Skyline).

I live in Memphis, I like Nashville and Chattanooga...but Cookeville would be my choice. It has most anything I need, and it's close enough to Nashville, Knoxville & Chattanooga to make for an easy day trip for the few things Cookeville is missing. I love the terrain of that area, as well as the eastern portion of the state - and visit pretty often.

A few years ago I was planning on moving there when I retired. That milestone passed almost a year ago....but my two sons live within 15 minutes of me now....not to mention my two grandkids! I'm not moving to a location 4 hours away from them....

I've been asked which I would prefer: ocean or mountains. Well here in Memphis you get neither, but I really think I'd prefer to wake up to a mountain scene over an ocean one. There's just something so majestic about mountains. If my family wasn't here, I'd take a strong look at Chattanooga! It's a great small city with scenic views.

Yes, and closer to the gulf.

It is so funny that I could have written the same thing. You and I aren't shy about telling people we are VERY happy that we moved out of Florida. But a few weeks ago, I would have moved back, given the chance.

One month ago, almost to the day, I was telling my daughter that I thought we had a very mild winter. Often, around Valentine's Day, Knoxville starts edging towards a spring. It doesn't turn spring overnight, but usually the first signs can be seen. In other words, it's often all downhill from there. Except this year.

I guess if I had to move from Knoxville - and I wouldn't be happy about it - my first choice would be Nashville, or the surrounding area.

Cookeville seems like a good choice, as well. One of our mods loves that town, and I trust his judgement. It's also about an hour away from Nashville.

Then I would consider Memphis. I dealt with a lot of Memphis residents at a previous job, and I loved their attitude, their kind spirits. It is very different than say, Knoxville. It's part of the Deep South and I find that charming but it's unemployment rate is high, lately.

Chattanooga has some great things to do, I just wish the employment situation was better, there. But if I were retired and didn't have to worry about education and jobs, it is probably a very good choice. I don't mean that there aren't jobs there. It's just that there are other places that are better. It's proximity to Atlanta is wonderful, too, as well as the local landscape. But for whatever reason, it comes down to vibe, and I never really cared for it. But I am sure there are people that love Chattanooga!

Having said all of that, Charleston, SC, parts of Florida and California, even parts of the Southwest (Albuquerque seems very interesting) would be worth a look, for me. I'd love living in NYC, if it weren't for the high cost of living and the weather! Of course, you didn't ask about other parts of the country.
