To the OP, I wouldn't move to a new city without jobs unless I had 8-10 months of healthy savings in my bank account (not including moving expenses!)

One way to get around this is for one of you to find work in the eventual city/town you decide to live in, then that person moves on up, staying in an extended stay until a rental can be found. Then when the other person can sell the house/find a job/etc., they move up too. This is a somewhat easier method of moving to a new place, financially - but may be emotionally more difficult as you could spend months apart.

Many jobs in your fields (sales/administrative) just don't much hire from out of state/out of area. Another thing to consider. May be good for one of you to live here, job hunting and finding whatever paying work you can, which may make landing that "great job" easier with a local address to put on the resume.

We are contemplating this. We have done it before for 6 months so it's not out of the question.
