They say you go to heaven for the weather and hell for the company. Now you can go to Baxter for the wine.

If you think you can legislate away sin, then best of luck to you.

I think everyone is still missing the point. I heard said more than once on this forum by folks recently moved to TN and by those looking to move to TN that if locals are so unhappy about the influx of transplants and the big housing developments and gated communities changing the face of their sleepy towns, they should stop blaming the folks moving here and developers and take their concerns to there local city and state government to initiate limits and restrictions on the amount and type of development.

Perhaps I misread, but I thought MIDTNREV’s point was that these officials that are suppose to uphold the wishes of their constituents and citizens are turning a deaf ear in favor of the almighty dollar. Describing how these small municipalities are so greedy they run roughshod over locals dismissing long-standing values to make a buck with no regard to the betterment or wishes of the community. Its not about wine or sins of the flesh its about greed and being screwed over.

Go ahead and poke fun as you watch all these quaint little towns in the mountains with lots of trees and views and streams and wildlife, with good schools, and little or no crime, with low property tax and little traffic and shopping and great restaurants with a sense of tight community that you could perhaps tool around in a golf cart in, cheap, that everyone is wanting, disappear.
Vent over.

Finally someone gets my points exactly, this is just what is happening here, and as stated by this member, it's not just here, it's soon to be everywhere..

The Supreme Court when altering the 5th amendment has made this type of takeover a soon to be common occurrence, I appreciate this members ability to sort through the abstract of it all and see the big picture.

Which is this, if we dont stop them here or somewhere soon this will become a commonly accepted practice that the citizens of these small towns will have no voice in at all....

We know only too well why these developers choose areas like this ,it's for the same reason big companies have moved to Mexico and other foreign soils to produce their products..CHEAPER EVERYTHING..land ,labor, taxes, production costs, the new eminent domain laws have amounted to little more than an internal version of NAFTA and we know what that has done to our countries economy.....PLEASE PEOPLE WAKE UP as of 2005 We have decided to produce nothing in this country anymore, our GNP (Gross National Product)
now exceeds 84% service industry ,that leaves a mere 16% for the actual production of goods, so if you want to go back to before the Industrial Revolution when you just had owners and workers ,you will have single handedly wiped out the Middle Class in America, I hope your children like little paper hats, and can learn to effectively say "you want fries with that" because soon that will be all that's available to them.

Serve it up,,,clean it up,,,or shut up !....those will be the choices

Thomas Jefferson Once said that at no time should a ruling party have control of both the purse and the sword, as another form of slavery will be created, and even with those important words we ignore the genius of his insight, and act as if that couldnt happen to us, well it already has.

Please note : that at no time in the history of human civilization has a tribe or nation of people ever succeeded without slaves, and though modern Politicaly Correct behaviour has you thinking this couldn't happen, try and deny the masses of (working class poor) they are soon to become the modern day slave.....

Don't believe my words look up these subjects and educate yourself, and try and disprove the points made, I welcome it...and while you fidget around on your keyboards, hoping to prove this to not be so....it will be too late...

By your silence regarding our small community ,we will have lost our chosen way of life, and we'll be too weak from the fight to speak up for you when they head your way.......with the status quo you are not going to have to fear a Terrorist War or Drug war, those are just the smoke and mirrors used to divert your attention from the true battleground.........
a Class War.......

Benjamin Franklyn was approached on the courthouse steps after the signing of the Declaration of Independence by a woman who asked
what have you done to us sir ?....he replied

" I have given you a republic madam now it's your job to keep it"

We have done nothing to that end,and the pace to which it is slipping away is ever accelerating............

So please think of your children and your childrens children, as our fore fathers risked all thinking of us....we are closely aproaching another era of indentured servitude, unfortunately I know how that book ends.......

Never has the first act of preserving freedom been to give it up

I will not back down.....I will not go quietly......

Wow. Just a tiny bit judgemental there, no? And did I mention controlling? First it's a physical community that should bend to your wishes and now only those that you deem worthy to post on the thread? Ah, Baxter is truly blessed. I can see the glow of the torches and the glint of the pitchforks from here.

I would love to see statistics of a town going to hell in a handbasket just because a winery opens. Do you have any supporting evidence to that fact? Or maybe the statistics of the number of people that drive to a winery to purchase a red or white and pop the bottle open to chug in the car on his or her way through town causing a domino effect of numerous crimes?
Although, since prohibition is the cause of all societal ills, I'm sure you would want to regulate what goes behind closed doors. Maybe you could cite the atrocities that happen when we have a glass with dinner in front of our own fireplaces at home. Who needs rights anyway!

As for the poster that cited sensationlism, "Amen" somehow seems appropriate here.

And if you must cite him, which I find a bit strange given the fact that he said "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.", but anyway...could you please at least spell his name correctly?

Thanks Eat. I'll have to send you a case of peach "shine" since the wine here in TN does not appeal to you. However, have you tried Highland Manor? I'm not sure in exactly which town it is located because I'm just learning the area, but so far I've not been disappointed.

Default Tone or Content

Moderator cut: orphaned

This isn't a tit for tat game this opening statement is accurate, and not for tone but for content, this is about the eating up of rural america, one small piece at a time, giving those that reside there little to no notice or voice in the matter, even at the cost of changing the inherit values upheld by the majority of it's residents, this is a clear case of the very few deciding for the many instead of it's intended reverse, and with a flagrant disregard on how it's received.....
that is the subject ...any comments on this specifically would be welcome

No, it is not about a winery.

Quite frankly, I thought this thread was about one more gentrification of the great state of Tennessee, so I passed it by.

Instead, I find the rev railing against the developers intent on bulldozing paradise.

Unfortunately, he started with the evils of booze. Prohibition only made bootleggers rich. I find that argument was unfortunate and misdirected.

But in the midst of his ranting I see a kernel of his real concern, he's afraid of them paving paradise and the masses so concerned with a cheap lifestyle, complete with a golf cart and a Walmart around the corner that their view will be gone before they've finished viewing "American Idol".

And the masses are going to pile on, rev, because they have been told that this is the American Dream, and you will not deny them.

They are not concerned about their local officials accepting payola, let alone the government, from the top down, running roughshod across the people that voted them in.

A winery sounds very nice, until you bring another damn development into it, and checks handed out and the local paper taking a picture of it for posterity.

I was a newspaper reporter in another life, before big business took it over it and our government and our people.

Yes, rev, do not go gentle into that good night, rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I'll be there with you.

Default Comprehension limited to parts not whole

I guess I'll have to say it again for the cheap seats.... no I don't think your comprehension is worth much ,because you, like so many others have decided my name midtnrev is short for Middle Tenneessee Reverend, when in fact it is not, so everyones assumption that it is alcohol that has me up in arms is just plain WRONG.

The post of mine that you chose to feature as a quote wasnt a part of my original concerns but rather me just playing sword games with those who started defending alcohol on a whole as if that was my interest and they would tell me all about trying to legislate morality...so I played along, and posted the known ills of liquor, to keep them fuming, but as can be expected there are those like yourself who just read bits and pieces of a thread and have struck on the key words you think the subject is about, and formed an attack against the Pias one who isnt even Church affiliated...lol

So get the picture this time if thats at all possible......
This is about Land Grabbing, by multi million dollar developement firms, that just by having the right connections or padding the right pockets move foreward as if they have priveledges that the rest of us do not...

So if you don't have anything to add about that subject, then my answer is the same...you havent a clue what you're talking about, and you have tried to reduce this thread to a personal attack against me without even clearly understanding the points...... you are nothing more than a cherry picker looking for points to argue regardless how far off the main issue they are..

So try to do some research and educate yourself on small town america being eaten alive by land grabbing developement firms, that have laid to waste local wants or needs all in the interest of making a buck no matter who it hurts or what lands are destroyed,, and this is about a neighboring larger town trying to annex it's smallest next door neighbor to the point of having business developements even use their towns name inside our corporate limits.. thats offensive on so many levels it isnt funny...

It personaly doesnt matter to me what they develope on that property it's that it's being deveoped at all without those of the town it resides in even being considered.....that was the reason for the comment

"What no amusement park ? " that's called being facetious... the point being why stop at just a vinyard/banquet hall/ custom homes site/craft store/winery since no one will have a voice in the matter anyway......
and I believe asking the question about how they managed to know in advance the outcome of a package liquor sale vote prior to it being voted on
especialy one that has always been defeated I thought was of interest as it might show the money trail that needs to be followed..as far as I know I havent missed a vote on Greed legistration either....

So your BS meter must be broken ,but my recently serviced /w certificate egotrometer is now pointing to yours as being pummled,,, and before you bite off another chunk you can't swallow "pummled" can be found in the urban dictionary....

Try to make your additions in regard to possible shady land developements, and their abilities to side step regulations/laws to get things past the residents of said communities...but Noooooo! that would be helpful <-------Sarcasm.......
