All of Lincoln County is pretty, with lots of rolling pasture. Keep in mind though, that the "town" of Petersburg is really small, just a few hundred residents. The last time I was there was 5 years ago, and there's not much there to speak of, just a few run down buildings and a convenience store. So it is basically rural, and you would have to drive 20 miles or so to shop in Fayetteville, Shelbyville, or Lewisburg. I don't know about housing or land prices there in northern Lincoln County; in the southern half of the county, land brings $5000 and up an acre due to the proximity to Huntsville. As far as people, they are pretty friendly. I can't help you much with the schools, I think the only H.S. is in Fayetteville but I don't know about grade school/middle school.

I have lived here for 30 years and acutally lived in the city limits for the last 4. As was stated earlier, there is NO retail here. It is about as close to Mayberry as you could get. In some respects, Mayberry was a big town in comparison to Petersburg. There are two quick marts both of which are Indian owned and operated and then there are two other markets that are American owned and operated and both also sort of a country diner setting. At breakfast and lunch time, you could go on, sit down, have a good home cooked meal and learn about anything you could possibly want to know about the area as most of the locals eat there. There is are a couple beauty shops, a bank and a pizza and ice cream shop. Most of the churches are within walking distance of the old square. There are three Walmarts...within a 20 minute drive. Major retail shopping is about 45 minutes away in Cool Springs, Huntsville AL and Murfreesboro. One thing many people don't know is that Petersburg straddles the county line between Lincoln and Marshall counties and is not far from the lines for Moore and Bedford counties. Children can actually catch a bus from either Marshall or Lincoln county schools. The bus for MArshall county from Cornersville stops on the square and numerous kids get on and off and walk over into Lincoln County. You know, I don't know of many kids from Marshall county who actually jump over to Lincoln county although that was what I did. Housing is quite affordable and there is some new construction underway. There are some mid level priced homes under construction and some upper level homes planned as well. ONe older victorian style home just down the street from me just sold recently. 2600 SQ ft on about a half acre for $95k. If you want to know more...just ask.

This is a reply I actually wrote to another request about Petersburg, but it also applies to what you are asking:
Based on my personal experience of Petersburg: This is a small and rural town. Lots of farm land (cows, horses, lamas, chickens, and other livestock etc.) There are not many (if any) street lights which makes driving challenging in the evening and night. There are a lot of farm-lands which make the houses quite a large distance from one another. There is no cable internet or DSL in this area. Although, an alternative would be satellite internet (but it can be costly) ... or you can always use dial-up. Cable TV is somewhat limited, but you can go with Direct TV. Most cell phones do not work in the area, but I found that Verizon does seem to pick up most of the area (although you are still subject to being cut off in spots). Jobs are scarce in the area and although there is limited housing and land for sale, there are not many ... if any at all in the rental department. There are gas stations and stores (dollar store, Walmart, Tractor Supply and retail stores such as this and fast food in Fayetteville, TN which is within 20 - 30 minutes of Petersburg). Not to mention, Huntsville, AL is about 45 mins. to an hour drive from Petersburg, and you could find whatever you need there if you're up for the drive. Also Nashville is about 60 - 90 minutes from there. It's definately Country Living, so if you're looking for the peace and quiet of the country and like some solitude, it may be a good match for you.

**As for the schools, it really depends on what part of Petersburg you live in. There are a few different elementary schools (Unity School, for one) - which is a good school. All of the elementary schools seem to congregate at Ninth Grade Academy in Fayetteville (just for ninth grade), and then the students move on to Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville. This is a very rural and small community with a lot of farmland.
