I would like to be within 20 miles of shopping/restaurants/ medical. I would like a home with at good size lot, I like neighbors but not right on top of each other. I currently live in a development and we have acre lots.

Hi VermontMan,

My wife and I chose a development called Cumberland Cove outside of Monterey, TN for retirement. We purchased a 4 acre lot there in 2007. We plan to retire there and build our retirement home on our lot, hopefully later this year or some time next year. Monterey is between Cookeville and Crossville, off of Interstate 40. There are many stores and restaurants in both Cookeville and Crossville. Both have a hospital and both are a short drive from Monterey. Cumberland Cove is an 8,000 acre development, but there are only about 500 homes in the development. There are many lots for sale. Most lots are either 2 or 4 acres. Cumberland Cove has a property owners association that enforces light restrictions which help to maintain property values. The annual property owners association fee is $120.00. If you can live with light restrictions and the annual fee, you might want to consider checking out Cumberland Cove. The development is almost completely wooded, but has paved streets. All utilities are available (electricity, natural gas, water, telephone). There are 4 parks with hiking trails in Cumberland Cove for the exclusive use of property owners. The Property Owners Association has a website if you are interested in more information. Just do an internet search for "Cumberland Cove, Monterey, TN."
