Currently living in Reno, NV and looking to relocate to Tennessee. I have two children that will be of middle school and high school age. I will be looking for an Elementary teaching position, and my husband will be retired. Areas of concern are good schools, employment, and housing. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Salaries for teachers in Nashville are atrocious considering the size of the system and the cost of living. Knox County (which encompasses Knoxville) is about the same. Honestly in terms of quality of schools, salaries, and cost of living, I would look at Johnson City or Kingsport schools. Outside of Memphis, Johnson City has the highest salaries in the state with Kingsport not far behind. Both systems are also some of the best performing in the state and the cost of living is quite affordable. It is also a beautiful part of the state. I'm partial to Johnson City as it is the home of a mid-sized University (East TN State) and a large hospital and VA hospital that brings diversity, youth, and a more liberal vibe to the area. You should really give the Tri-Cities area a look.

Check out Williamson County, TN. The best school system in TN and good pay for teachers. Housing is a bit expensive, however.
