I'm mostly am talking about in rural towns. I don't know if more of them has been put up by neighbors and citizens, or if it's just something that I just began to notice, but it seems like ever since that shooting happened, there's been a lot more Confederate flags around...not that it's a problem to ME.

My neighbors put the Mexico flag up in their yard.

Yes. With all of the politically charged BS, and with some retailers announcing they will no longer carry it, they are in high demand. Some people are convinced that the gubmint's gonna take their flag away, so they're standing their ground and proudly waving it.

The sad thing is that before the shooting, I think the number of people displaying the flag was slowly decreasing. When the media turned their attention from the positive coming together of people of all races in Charleston to the flag outside the statehouse more than 100 miles away, it sparked a firestorm from the "heritage" crowd. If eliminating the flag was their goal, it had the complete opposite effect.

I think the reaction to the anti-Confederate flag agenda was expected and the goal.

^^^ This. Politics has long ceased to be about logic and reason. These days it's all about scaring you into voting against the other side.

"O'Bummer comin' fer yer gunz!!"
"The Repugs are voting to end wefare!!"
"They'se gonna ban my granpappy's flag!!"
"Monsanto's gonna force us all to eat fish tomatoes!"

Yeah, Nashvols, how did the attention go from a single man killing some Blacks to being about the Confederate flag? I don't even remember it being in the equation. Did the gunman wave around the flag while shooting, or was it just a political move like everyone said?

It's a shame that the flag is associated with racism so easily. I'm perfectly fine with people having it...I just wouldn't talk to anyone who carries around or wears a Confederate flag. And if I meet someone who does but doesn't automatically hate me or is even someone I get along nicely with, I'll take it as a pleasant surprise.

Why? Because the anti-confederate flag activists on TV told you to be ashamed?

Well, the war has been over for 150 years. We need not forget the past, but perhaps we should recognize that we are one nation again, and no one here is truly a "rebel".

Well....those recently displaying the flag due to the recently politically charged PC BS are rebelling against it.

I have seen a great increase in my area. There has always been the large confederate flag belonging to the sons of the confederacy that flies along I-40. I am seeing it everywhere now but I have to say 90% of the time it is flying along with the American flag and often the TN state flag as well.
