Jackson: Retail development updates?
Looking around Jackson today, there is a lot of retail development underway. Does anyone have the inside track or heard the latest rumors about what is going on? Here's some of the projects underway and what I've heard.
South Jackson: Meridian Springs/Meridian Plaza - Home Depot, O'Charleys, movie theater, Target (doubtful to me)
I-40: Park Place & Sandstone Village - movie theater, big box stores
I-40: Moss Creek Town Center (lifestyle center) - Dillards, Macy's, quite a few of the stores from Old Hickory Mall
Vann Drive: strip center anchored by JCPenney
These developments definitely have the potential to change the face of Jackson's retail industry. What do you think - will it close Old Hickory Mall?

I've heard about all the things you are talking about with the exception of the South Jackson items. Supposedly the Mall is a done deal, will be about a quarter the size of Wolfchase with room to grow and construction starts pretty soon. Was told by an employee of Costco in Germantown that Costco is considering building in Jackson but haven't been able to confirm that any further. Heard that JC Penneys had plans to build it's own stand alone in the Columns but is now looking at the possibility of the new mall. Read that the owners of the new Flat Iron Grill steakhouse in the Columns have plans to open two more high-end restaurants in Jackson.
I don't think The Old Hickory Mall will be able to stay open if they lose Macys and JC Penneys plus I'm sure a few of the smaller stores will want to move not to mention the other anchor store Belks (haven't heard anything about their plans).

I would be very surprised if Costco came to Jackson. Jackson would be Costco's smallest market in the entire nation.
I'm still holding out hope for a downtown entertainment complex, though it's looking more and more doubtful.

I think Old Hickory Mall is on its last legs.

I've heard talk radio speculation that Hooters is looking at South Jackson. Anyone else heard this? Personally, I think it's a strange fit.
Also, anyone heard anything about Barnes & Noble?

I wish Jackson would get a Barnes and Noble. Davis-Kidd was good. Books-A-Million is a joke.
