First, thanks to everyone who posts on this site, you are a huge help to everyone looking for info.

Ive read a lot of posts to get ideas but couldn't really find any that addressed my particular situation.

Im a lot like other queries - Looking to move to TN. We have lived in Louisiana all our lives but love the outdoors and mountains so considering a move to TN, mostly for the lower cost of living, tax situation and the mountains. We have visited TN (Chattanooga, Gatlinburg) but not really any other areas.
We have 3 children living at home- 3, 9 and 18 so good schools are very important. Grade school and college within 30-60 min.
We love the outdoors so want to be within 30-60 minutes of trout fishing/river. Also enjoy history, museums, theatre, etc. from time to time.
I work overseas so employment is not important, just need an airport with flights to Houston within 30-60 min.
A rural area with reasonable cost of living($150k-200k) that is in/close to mountains but also within 30-60 minutes of city amenities such as shopping, entertainment, hospital, etc. We definitely don't want to live in subdivision, just need a few acres.
We have family that live north of Atlanta and Greenville, SC so one of the reasons we chose E TN area other than the mountains.

So Im looking for a lot of the same things everyone else is, main difference is that I don't need to be close to good employment.
We are planning a trip for about a week, in a week or two, so Im trying to narrow down the best place to start looking.
Thanks so much for any advice!

JC has good city schools, but the cost of living isn't really cheap, and it isn't rural. Houses in JC area are probably more expensive than equivalent parts of Knoxville or Chattanooga. Greenville, SC is about two hours from JC. I can't imagine most of TN being cheaper than Louisiana.

The Tri-Cities airport is convenient but expensive. I doubt you'd have any direct flights to Houston from there - most flights out of the Tri-Cities connect in Charlotte or Atlanta.

JC would probably fit the other questions.
