Wow!
You sound like my neighbors!
Aren't these Tennesseans welcoming?
This is exactly what you can look forward to.

I can relate to the problems
Yeah, we've got meth in the country around us and every once in a while some yo-yo gets busted with a lab in his car. You can buy pot pretty much anywhere, anytime.
Go out of the city a ways and you'll spot rednecks and junkers sitting out in the yards.
People will flip you off if you do something stupid on the road.
Yep, good ole Tennessee! Oh, no wait! I don't live in Tennessee, I live in Iowa. For honesty in writing I will insert here (any state in the Union).
Sure does get confusing.
By the way: For those of you who don't always pick up on it, sarcasm, or any other nuance, doesn't carry well in written form. Sometimes you have to read less into what you're seeing than you want to.

I don't have people shooting me birds or trying to run me off the road because they are mad at you like Florida people and we don't have hookers that sell hotdogs on the highways to truckers like Floridians! Sure I say "thar" for "there" but at least my language is proper for every human ear around! Sure we got drugs, everyone does, but Tennessee is approximately 15 years behind in the violence/crime/drugs than Florida! That is why people want to live here, they messed up their state so now they want to see what they can do to this one...just a rednecks opinion!

Without meaning to, I came across another post of yours regarding tobacco, and it looks like your first two posts are quite...well, nasty. As in, you do not know how to speak in a civil manner, nor write with the proper language that you claim you speak with.
If you know how to read, I never said that I had said any of those opinions regarding "hillbillies...rednecks...meth...pot, and so on". I had been commenting on recent posts by a couple of posters who had been making it sound as if that was all that lived in Tenn. So all of this ugly anger can be taken to finding those posters and directing it towards them. I find it funny how you get angry when you think someone is insulting your state, yet you throw insults around at Fl...kinda like the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?
Now I have to say that I hope all Tn people aren't like you...but then again, I know they aren't because I have gained some insightful and helpful information from quite a few TN folks on this board.

MRSHVO:
I could tell that you were being sarcastic. You were pretty much sticking up for the state.
Unfortunately, not everyone has a sense of humor. I'm sure there are great folks in Tennessee. Unfortunately, I come across a lot like her.

Not meaning to offend you, but yes WE (TN schools) have lots of schools with sheriffs and drug dogs in our schools. Even here in Tri-Cities. I for one, like that idea. Granted we do not have the drugs and crime to the degree many other states have in our schools, and I attribute those low numbers to those officers in our schools.
I am assuming you have had some problems with some one in particular from Fl. But I don't think it is fair of you to come on this open forum and start insulting people. You don't want them to insult TN because they don't know about it and are assuming.....well, you are doing the same thing. I don't like it eaither when someone assumes all people in TN are like the one TN person they ment and don't like. Heck, I have met lost of people from NY that I don't like, I would never assume they represented the entire state, I happen to like NY.
Please tone it down a bit.
Thank you and welcome to the forum, I am sure everyone here will value your insight to the area of TN you live in, but please discuss it, don't throw around insults and accusations.

Why is it that the term "redneck" is allowed to be thrown around so much in these forums? I mean, its basically being used as a racial insult, yet the moderators don't seem to care? I'll be moving to Tennessee soon, and just reading through the forums I've been surprised and how the term redneck gets thrown around as a racial/stereotyping insult, and it seems to be okay. Hope its only on this forum and that people in Tennessee are less judgemental.

Tek Freek,
The administrators have considered putting the word "redneck" of the banned user list. However, many people refer to themselves, proudly as such. It is not really a racist remark, at least not here in East TN, it is used more of a description. My step son claims to be a red neck. The phrase originated and refers to farmers, or other hard working people that worked outside all day and had a perpetual sun burn on their neck. They tend to be very opinionated and loyal the their family, friends and towns. Yes, it used to be an insult, but so did the term "geek" now if some one is called a geek, it is taken as compliment as inferring they are very smart with computers.
Willowslady referred to herself as a redneck, no one called her that.

Thank you
Both for the explanation and for deciding to remove my posts.
Oddly enough I've never considered redneck to be derisive, but I had to stop and think after reading the earlier post. We have plenty of "red necks" around here because of all the farming, so it's a simple term used as you describe.
And yes, I'm a geek and a freek (Tek, that is).
