Default Christian Fellowship in Tennessee

We are thinking about moving to Tennessee and are hoping we can find a nondenominational group of Christians that meet for worship outside of a traditional church.

The most important factor is that they take the Bible seriously.

The worship meeting would be open (rather than scripted) and participatory. (Anyone can pick a song to sing or pray out loud.)

The teaching would be done by different men in the group rather than a pastor.

Does anyone knows of a group like that (could be in a home) anywhere near McMinnville, Monteagle, Pikeville, or Cookville? Or anywhere in Tennessee? We know there is a fellowship in Memphis but don't know about the rest of the state.

I assume you've already tried the House Church Central website. There is another website that lists home fellowships in different states but I can't remember the name right now.

Here in the south, it can be difficult to find a house church. Generally, Christians here think that it goes against pastoral "authority" to be in a house church. The subject of "authority" is one reason my wife and I left the institutional church. We've lived in Mississippi over 5 years and have not found a home church fellowship yet; we just meet occasionally with friends for praise and worship.

Anyway, I wish you Godspeed in finding a fellowship. Having been involved in house churches in other areas of the country, I could never go back to the institutional church.

Default House Church

Sarah

I ran across your post today and I am not sure if you are still checking this website. We house church in Chapel Hill TN which is 40 minutes south of Nashville. We have an 4 families that have meatings (not mis-spelled), we fellowship, eat a meal together, sing and worship together. Each week a different family is the host. It is really great. We too were tired of the corporate church and wanted something.

If you are still looking this is a great area to live. Land is affordable and the community is small but still close to the big city.
