Well that is great that you grow the tobacco there, you must be proud of the millions of people that die from smoking and chewing it. Both my parents supported your growers for 30 years and both died of Lung Cancer due to it. I dont know why it is ok to think that I should have to put up with your 2nd hand smoke, but it is not ok for me to want to breathe clean air. I do not WANT asthma, but I have it. I guess it is wrong for me to want to not aggravate my condition. I have nothing against smokers and believe they have the right to smoke. If I move there, I wanted to know what I was facing. I will choose the places I frequent based upon knowing which places are smoke free and which are not. I do know that over 20 states have already made smoking indoors in public places illegal. TN obviously has not because of the money it brings in to the State and that is fine with me. I am not asking you to change, just wanted to know the status.

Know where you go...
That's why it is important to understand exactly where you are going.
I took it as a given that smoking would be allowed in restaurants. This IS tobacco country.
I had and have no intention of changing local ways. I moved here because I like this way of life. This is exactly why the locals are rebelling.
There was a huge influx of people that moved to Florida and tried to change the place. They were successful. Now they're moving here. Good luck. There were far fewer native Floridians. You will see more resistance in Tennessee. Remember, most of the people on this forum are not natives. And there are some on this boards with ulterior motives.

Back to the smoking in restuarants-do they section off the smoking and non-smoking, like they used to do elsewhere before elsewhere became outright non-smoking?

I guess...
The same as they did before they banned smoking in other places. Some are better than other places. This is the SOUTH.

Hello, Dana Reeve never smoked.......
Most restaurants in TN that allow smoking section them off, but by no means all of them. You'll quickly find places that are smoke-free. Private msg me if you want more info, or to ask where they DO allow smoking. In an effort to be positive, here's a partial list of smoke-free restaurants in Franklin-
Cheeseburger Charley's
Blue Coast Burrito
Don Juan's
Pancho's- only the new one
Sue's Gyros
Genghis Grill
HRH Dumplin's
Saffire
Sperry's
Calypso Cafe
5 and Diner (new owner- sucks now, but non-smoking
Merridee's
Puckett's (downtown Franklin only, not Leiper's Fork)
Sake
Basil Asian Bistro
Jasmine
Otter's Chicken
Wild Noodles
Fat Moe's
Daylight Donuts and Meat -n- 3
Starbucks
China Panda
Monell's
That's just in Franklin off the top of my head. So, you see, there's plenty to choose from. You just have to look.
Don't let this one thing stop you if everything else seems right. It's a huge issue for me, and I can honestly say we are able to avoid smoking businesses without any inconvenience.
Good luck!

I don't think so...
I don't think that I smell smoke in the schools. I doubt it.

This thread makes me cringe. I can't stand people that leave one place for another and try to make the new locale like it was "back home". Yes, people around here smoke in restaurants, convenience stores and bars. I really hope the crying liberals don't chip even further into the heritage of the area by trying to outlaw this simple pleasure in Tennessee like they did in Florida.
I moved here six months ago and I'm adapting to the area, not making the area adapt to me. If a bunch of Floridians move here and try to "evolve" the heritage and social aspects of the area it's just going to be Florida, Part 2...and one Florida is enough.
