hello all.

i have been thinking of relocating to TN (from NJ) and have some questions about some of your experiences in TN.

1. do you regret the move to TN? what are the pros and cons?

2.the cost of living( i know property taxes are lower than most)
what about food,electric,heating,ect..

3. schools, how would you compare them to some other states?

4.job market, is it hard to find a job(carpenter) if you don't have one line up when you get there? ( we have family in virginia and was told that companies will hire locals first instead of who is better qualified. just wondering how it is in TN)

5. humidity, how hot in summer ( how bad are the misquitos) /how about winter?

6. could anyone suggest an area to look into. would like a rural area with good schools. in the mountains with land would like to get away from the overcrowed areas.

thank you all for any and all help...

I do not regret the move from NY at all!

2.the cost of living( i know property taxes are lower than most)

Yes, property taxes are lower, no state tax, gas is comparable to NJ, Food about the same in groceries but most restraunts are cheaper. Electric is much cheaper.

3. schools, how would you compare them to some other states?
sorry, no children in school

4.job market, is it hard to find a job(carpenter) if you don't have one line up when you get there? ( we have family in virginia and was told that companies will hire locals first instead of who is better qualified. just wondering how it is in TN)
I had no problem but I am an occupational therapist.

5. humidity, how hot in summer ( how bad are the misquitos) /how about winter?
runs about 10 degrees warmer in the winter and 5 deg. warmer in the summer

6. could anyone suggest an area to look into. would like a rural area with good schools. in the mountains with land would like to get away from the overcrowed areas.
I am very partial to this area because we are not too far from good stores and not too close to congestion.

thank you all for any and all help...
Good luck in your search, and God Bless.

I would answer pretty much the same as hjlacy except I found an accounting job fairly quickly and stayed with the Co. for 2 years before I moved to another town for better schools.
I do have kids in school (hence the move) I am in Washington Co now and love the schools! 200% better than FL schools for sure! 80% better than Jefferson Co TN schools and 50% better than Greene Co schools (those are my percentages, nothing scientific there).
