Hello,
We have been thinking about moving for quite a while. My husband and I are thinking the Shelbyville area might be what we are looking for. We are open to Manchester, or any of the other smaller towns around there as well. I had a few questions though as this will be a huge move for us. How are the schools in Shelbyville? Is the area pretty safe? (we are coming from a very rural area where everybody knows each other and watches out for one another) We tend to be conservative, is it a conservative area for the most part or is it about 50/50? How much snow during the winter if any? What about tornadoes? Are most homes built with a basement? Are people pretty accepting towards newcomers or is it a community that is hard to become part of? Are there many churches? Sorry about so many questions, but there is so much to think about. Thanks ![]() |

Schools- Public schools aren't great but they aren't terrible. There are a few private schools. One of them being Webb in Bell Buckle. It's pricey but a very good school.
Safety- Overall the area is safe. Most of the crime consists of petty theft and misdemeanor drug possession, but like most other places there are areas I would steer clear of. Political leanings- From my own view the area tends to lean right, but it's subjective so take it for what it's worth.(which most would say isn't much )Tornadoes/basements- I haven't seen a tornado in the fifteen years I've been here.(knock wood) The few that do hit seem to concentrate in the northern part of the county for some reason. Some of the older houses have basements but they are rare to find. Acceptance- Coming from the Midwest, I found the people here very welcoming, and I had no problems assimilating at all.(but again, it's subjective) Churches- There are many churches here. Most are of the Baptist or Church of Christ variety with a smattering of Catholic/Presbyterian/Methodist thrown in. Hope that helps some. If you have any more questions feel free to shoot me a direct message. |

Thanks for the info
We are looking at homes and working with a Realtor, but are thinking maybe we should rent first. Is there a little online paper you know of that lists rentals in the area? Thanks! |

Check the classifieds for homes for sale and rental properties. We live nearby just outside of Wartrace and really love it here. I am sure you will too! |
