Well,

I FINALLY got the railroad to assign me to TN, but it's in Chattanooga and my family just moved to Johnson City, TN with a 6 month lease on an apartment.

I should report for duty next week, I can't say that I'm excited, I've mentally prepared myself to go to college with the college money from my time in the service, with that and my military retirement I should be fine.

Having said the above, the 52k I make a year is great, the 12-16 hours a day that I work is not. I can make 15k a year in college money, plus I make another $20k a year in retirement money.

I think that I should go to Chattanooga, try it out for a few months and see how things go, my son wants me to quit an move to Johnson City and forget the railroad, I kind of agree with him. What do you think?

Tony

Hang in there my friend!! Not knowing enough details, I can only say good luck!

If I recall correctly, lots of people really like both Chatt and Johnson City so it seems like it's a matter of job choices.

Tony-------good luck in whatever you decide.

My son retired from the Navy (20 years) in 2003. He worked in retail but decided to try something new.

This January he started a 4 year college in MI.

yup,you do have alternatives and your situation sounds similar to my son's (he is married and has 2 kids, but his past job didn't interfere with their being together)
