Hello, I looked at the pics shown on the pic thread, they are BEAUTIFUL!! My husband wants to move us to TN. I was leary to move but want to try it. We are from Nebraska, so we would love the warmer weather. We have looked at many differnt towns online. It is so hard to choose when you don't know anything about the area! Let me tell you about Us. We are 25 we have 4 kids, a dog, cat, and want to live in the country. We would love to have a home with a little land. We have thought about old Hickory,Woodbury, Paris, Coopertown,Sunbright. SO if you have any info about the good bad of these towns please let me know. We really kind of liked Coopertown so if you know anything about this town let me know! My husband is looking for some sort of construction work as he has been a foreman here. He can also drive semi so jobs around the towns would be helpful. SO if you know that there is no work of this kind around these towns let me know. Tell me what you think! Thanks!

I grew up a few miles down the road from Coopertown in east Montgomery County, and have friends and family in the general Coopertown/Pleasant View area (these are almost like "twin cities"--one is on the north side of the Interstate in Robertson County, the other is on the south side in Cheatham County). Coopertown is an incorporated town with its own government services but it's not even as large as Mayberry; it might be better to think of the area by county, since you might find a place you like near there without actually living in the "town" itself, plus the schools and other government issues are decided at the county level.
Both Coopertown and Pleasant View are pretty nice places to live, and offer a reasonable commute to either Nashville, Springfield, or Clarksville to work. As for construction work, home building has slowed somewhat in the area (although not as much as nationally), while commercial construction continues at a pretty good pace. I just happen to have a list of the largest construction firms in the great Nashville area in PDF format (I work for a structural engineering firm); let me know of you'd like a copy. I'm also somewhat familiar with the other areas you mentioned (except for Sunbright), but not as well as the Coopertown area. I'll be glad to answer whatever questions I can. |

I live in Smith County...othewise known as the 'boonies'. It's about as 'back to basics' as you get, as far as the towns are concerned. But we're building a new Super Walmart! yay!
Anyway, Carthage is one of the prettiest places I've ever seen so living here is phenomenal. My house is new and I have 20 acres for the same price as some would pay for JUST the land in other areas. We are actually planning to move out west though, due to our sinus and allergy problems. If you are prone to allergies, Tennessee is the single worst state to live! And as for 'warmer' weather...we could do without the 90 % humidity in summer and the cold wet winters. |

If your kids are easily bored, I would stay away from Sunbright. It is a long way from what most would consider civilization. In upper Morgan County, it is prob 1.5 hr from Knoxville and 1 hr 15 min from Crossville. It is definitely rural. Last time I was there about a year ago, there wasn't even a gas station until you got to Wartburg going down 62.

We moved to TN last year from FL and we are way over in the northeast corner in the Tri-Cities Area, but we do love it here. The weather is a little more comfortable over our way in the summer, but we probably get a little colder in the winter though nothing to compare to Nebraska.

I think you'll like Tennessee. I know someone who is from Tennessee, and she is one of the nicest people I will probably ever know. Tennessee's weather is a lot better than Nebraska's weather. It might be a little cold in the winter, but nothing like Nebraska. You won't have to worry about being snowed in.
Good luck! |

Hi, I live in Woodbury [mod] cut [mod]. Woodbury is only 20 minutes to Murfreesboro (whose growth is still booming) and only 1 hour from Nashville. Here in Woodbury we have very big hills and even a mountain (it's called Short Mountain) with great views. We are pretty much in the middle of TN and have everything you could want. We are a small county (Cannon County, population of around 12,000). You can actually live in a small town, out in the country, and still be 20 minutes to civilization! We have two grocery stores (three when counting the Dollar General Market), Freds, Dollar General Market, Family Dollar Store, Movie Gallery, Autozone (opening in a few weeks), several gas stations, and several more stores that may be of interest. There is no Wal-Mart in town but there are 3 SuperWal-Marts within a 25 mile radius. We also have a drive-in movie (www.themoonlitedrivein.com). I must warn you though: this is horse lovin country and everyone has a John Deere tractor
! It seems like there is always a horse show, mud bog, or tractor pull going on somewhere. We even have a horse parade each summer. Moderator cut: Realtor advertising is not allowd on this forum Last edited by mbmouse; 07-13-2008 at 12:58 PM. Reason: misspelling, duplicate email and website |
