It amazes me how freaked out people get when they see an animal and want to kill it. Oppossums are great. They are the only marsupial on the North American continent. They are also natural RAT predators. They EAT rats. Good to have around. Leave it alone.

You could use a have-a-heart trap to catch it and release it somewhere else, but check your local laws on that....wink, wink. We have a critter in our barn and we asked animal control to take it before our dog gets it and makes history of it. They tell me it's illegal here to relocate a mammal. I guess it's better to let my dog kill it than relocate it??

Hey, we happily "relocated" (to OUTSIDE) the opossum that showed up in our bathroom one night!
(see picture several pages back in this thread).
I don't think anyone was advocating killing these or any animals, just commenting on how often they are seen on the road and way to close to our houses and the mess/damage harm they can or can not make.
Hey, if there is a snake in my bathroom, it will get the shovel and be gone for good. If any animal is destroying my property or effecting the well being of my pets, sorry it is gone unless it is an endangered species then I will call someone to relocate it.
Still don't think anyone was freaking out and wanting to kill any animals.

Edit/add: Ok thought it was this thread I had put that picture in but guess not now that I looked back over it.
Here it is though. Got up one night around 2:00am for a bathroom trip and when I opened the door, look what I found.

After taking a picture of it and wondering how the heck it got IN, we threw a thick towel over it, brought it out back and let it go, never saw it again.
