Out of curiosity, how rough is the environment in general for people who have asthma and allergies if we were to plan a visit? Just asking because I have a cousin in Kentucky and she says her allergies are a challenge there. Does anyone know if it's similar? Or is it something that a Clariton can't knock out?

Thanks!!

Growing up in Memphis, I never had problems, but Nashville is known for being problematic for allergy sufferers.

There are other threads covering that topic:

Bring your allergy drugs and have a great time. There's a lot to see and do.

The large animal vet referred to Middle Tennessee as "allergy purgatory", when I first moved here, lol

Middle Tennessee is AKA The Basin. Stale air tends to hang around until a wind strong enough to blow the barn down comes along, and lifts the old air up and over the Cumberland Plateau. Then we breathe clean air for a short time. At least that's how it works in the rural areas, I can't speak to the city.

I have horses so I live outdoors. I manage the allergies I didn't used to have fairly well with Benedryl. I bathe or shower with pure goat milk soap.

I have a horse that didn't have any signs of environmental allergies until I moved here. I control him with a strict diet (low sugar & starch) and magnesium maleate, from a company who prepares it for horses.

i sure wouldn't tell anyone to avoid vacationing in this beautiful state because of allergies. Just come medically prepared

Highly variable depending on which part of the state you're talking about.

The Tennessee River Valley (Chattanooga, Knoxville) and the Nashville "Bowl" are known for bad allergen concentrations. I know one allergy doctor who said being an allergy specialist in Chattanooga was like "shooting fish in a barrel".
