Also Needed in Cookeville
Another store Cookeville needs is PetsMart. I have to drive all the way to Mt. Juliet to do my shopping for my cats. Petco is alright for some things, but PetsMart has their prices beat by quite a bit!

I agree I wish we had a petsmart, the prices are MUCH better. I just recently went to petsmart in Mount Juliet and bought some oxy clean solutions for pets (new puppy :P) and it cost $20 there and $30 at petco...

I like Cookeville, too. Nice people and housing is reasonable. Low taxes also which is always a plus! [URL removed]

The gift shop/store in Muddy Pond is open but I'm not sure if the Baken Hause is yet. It is usually only open from Tues through Sat but since they have new owners, I will have to call and see. I need to order some pumpernickle-rye anyway.
Check out the size of those Belgians in the corner field where Cliff Springs road forks... monsters they are.

Rumor floating on the mountain and in the Pond is that the last owners already sold it again and it is going to end up as a pool hall ugh.

I knew Belgians were large work horses but I had no idea. A very impressive animal. Hand it to those Mennonite's, they have a great deal of pride in their animals and it shows.

Forgive me, but I had to chuckle at this one. We are in CA (Northern CA - wine country, to be more exact) and when you said the prices were high in Cookeville I just about choked. We bought our home here in CA in 1996, before the housing boom, for $244,000. We have 2/3 of an acre with a 1700 sf 3 bedroom, 1 bath house, detached 2 car garage with an office (that is NOT heated) attached to the garage, attic storage, no basement. It is a really nice house, don't get me wrong.
Last week when we were in Cookeville, we found a very nice home on 2.71 acres, 3400 sf, 5 bedroom, 4 bath, basement, 2 kitchens, office, den, 60 x 30 garage/shop, pond, mill house - $239,900!
Basically, what I'm trying to say here, is that the idea of expensive/inexpensive is all relative to what you are used to.
Gas prices for instance, when we were in Cookeville, we paid around $3.15. The day we came home our local station had it for $3.57. Relativity.
Personally, I really liked the area. Didn't spend a lot of time in the historic area, but look forward to exploring more when (trying to keep a positive attitude) we get there.
Hope everyone has a great Easter!

relative yes - when you compare Cookeville to middle tn Nashville area, it IS pricey! There is NO major airport close by or upscale shopping and culture- so yes in that respect it is expensive. Compared to CA? might as well include MARS..You CANNOT compare the coasts to flyover country..apples and oranges...
